Will reduce the chucking and ensure they are full and can last till the next fed.]]>

If you look closely at the babe's jaw when they first latch on you will see that they move right up to their ear. later in the feed you might notice this stops and they just make small movements with the jaw and pause a lot - this is comfort sucking (at least as I understand it).<br /><br />Thanx for the advice girls - I tried the big wait after her burp for the last feed, and when I went to put her back on she just came off the boob and started to look around - I took that disinterest as a sign she was done!<img border="0" src="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0"> ]]>

With us he starts a feed sucking furiously, then it becomes quite long and rhythmic with swallows and then after a while I realise he is just going suck suck suck....very regular, no pauses etc....just as he would a dummy<br /><br />At least that is what I think it is]]>

I know that babies stop every once in a while to take a breather, but one m/w said no more than 5-10 seconds, and if it happens quite regularly, burp them, try them again and then stop.]]>

Even now he will only stop himself when he is feeding at night and then he pulls up with a satisfied smirk.<br /><br />HOWEVER......with the formula feeds he will stop and push the bottle out and then push it away when he has had enough....interesting!  Makes me wonder if he was getting enough before....but sometimes I know he was.<img border="0" src="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0"> ]]>

I took my time putting her back on. This seemed to improve it- I think it allowed her time to feel 'full' as some babies don't realise they're full until they've gone past that point.]]>

This seems to be working but still wonder when I really should stop.]]>
