I'm enjoying Gina more and more as she's growing up - sure she's waaaaay more active and needs more attention etc but we can also do heaps of fun things together.

Michaela started getting easier about 8-10 weeks but was still a clingy baby until she figure out crawling at 5 months. Once she started sleeping through (at 9 months) I became a much happier mummy.

Now is definalty easier and way more fun than Isla as a newborn was. It was awful, my only thoughts were 'what the hell have we done'. Unfortunatly that lasted til she was about 9 months old . Too scared to ever go back there! I think I have to say toddlers even though Sam is only nearly one now.
I did love her as a newborn, but am really enjoying her as she gets older.
I love that when I get a cuddle now it's because she wants one - that makes it mean so much

My toddler is so much easier now than she was as a newborn.

She spent the first few months of her life attached to me (not kidding, the front pack was my saviour) and she didn't sleep longer than 1.5hrs at a time day or night - I have no idea how I functioned.

I went into hospital after 3 weeks because my lochia was really heavy and I was so disappointed they didn't admit me for the night as I just wanted a rest!

Newborn
Sucky parts:
They're blobs with no personality
Keep you up at night
Change their routine constantly
Keep you in more than out
Sleep can be easily interrupted
Cries are like drills
Can have medical surprises like reflux and allergies.
Don't enjoy things with you (like walks to the playground and a push in the swing LOL!)
Burping/dribbling
Can't tell you that they love you and show affection.

Great parts:
Smell good
So teeny!
Blank canvas
Portable
Don't run off
Their smiles and giggles are so sweet!

Toddlers:
Sucky parts:
Poos smell worse
Evil tantrums
Get into everything
Bad behaviour/habits begins
They don't often wake at night but when they do you think to yourself "FARK, I can't deal with THIS!"
Crying is LOUD, especially the screaming.
Dealing with them socially or during shopping is not cool

Great parts:
You can go for a walk and explore and play together
They can walk
They can some what talk and gesture to get their point across
You can leave them to play and it's a good thing, especially at kiddy gyms
You can teach them to swim
You can teach them mannerisms like "thumbs up" and "high fives!"
They have funny/entertaining personalities
Don't often break from routine
You can have fun watching them experience new things, especially new foods.
They don't often wake at night
They wrap their arms around you and give you a hug and a kiss and say "I love you" in their own special way.


I have loved Olivia at all of her ages but especially as a toddler, she hit 17 months and became really cool. I found getting up in the night and Olivia's reflux/heart murmur rather horrifying to deal with as a newborn. I can't really comment as our situation was definately not typical.

I found the first 3 weeks really great then it all went crazy. It's only the last 4 months or so that things have started to settle down.

I wouldn't say easier, just different, and I agree that for me it was easiest between about 5-10 months. The newborn stage was dreadful coz they screamed a lot and had shocking reflux etc. and the toddler stage is driving me up one wall and down another and I am sick of the constant mess my house is in with the twin terrorists on the loose.

I think toddlers here - I don't cope well with the newborn lack of sleep. That said, I don't *hate* newborns - the masses of cuddles and tiny wee-ness of them makes up for it!

newborns as such arent easy - well i didnt think so - its not till they get past that yucky poos stage and figure out the feeding and sleeping thing that they get easier... say about 3/4mths old i suppose then they are a piece of cake...

then again the toddlers are easy when they are not pushing the boundaries. i had only one the other day at the supermarket and it was a breeze.

i always thought one child was a piece of cake tho, as a mum it wasnt till i had two that i had to really start "working".

Which did you find 'easiest' (not that either of them are?):  Your newborn, or your toddler?  People go on about how difficult toddlerhood is for mums but I have to say, I found a newborn much, well, maybe not harder, but it was a far less enjoyable stage than this one.  Some people thrive with newborns - when are you in your element?  With a little newbie, or watching your toddler systematically break everything in your house? 

My vote is on the Toddlers!!  Am I the only one?
