Go to Tools/Toolbars, then tick the ones you want showing. He said if you go to either view or options you should be able to turn them back on there. Does that help?
Give me a ring if it doesn't, he'll be home for about another 15 mis and can talk you through it :)

I'm an idiot, I'm running IE7 via XP and I have somehow managed to turn off the top tool bars.
