Hey Fiona,

It sounds as though my son has the same thing as Elle does. This is now day 14, although its only been REALLY bad for the past 9 days. My dr said that he had viral gastro-enteritis and that it could last up to 3 weeks!!!

I am so over it, and pray that I don't wake up to everything covered in it again tomorrow morning!

My doc was talking Giardia too.

I thought viral tummy upsets only last 48hours to 7 days max???

ella has a tummy bug - in nelson the doc suggested giardia but we havent been anywhere...except nelson LOL!!! there is a nasty bug going round DC and OMG the explosions we are havvng are horrid - from Ella AND BSDH! I wanna leave home......

The stool sample tests came back all clear!   No bateria or virus. Argh. She is still have 2 explosive motions per day. A big shock for us as she was previously constipated constantly from 4 months old. Mmmmm. I wonder if it is related to the wheat free diet???

Yeah they seem to say that about 4 of the common bacterial things can be contracted from food or from domestic pets and some from soil.

That's toxoplasmosis. Campylobacter is from contaminated chicken, faeces etc. so she'd only get it from the cat if the cat had eaten something dodgy and then she touched it's faeces.

I read it could be contracted from domestic pets...mmm, bad old google.

We get the results on Monday so hopefully something shows up and can be treated.

Someone said it could be her gut adjusting and healing now we've cut wheat out but I doubt it.

Yeah hopefully it isn't listeria. I freaked out when I realised that some people can have listeria without any symptoms! I figured you'd get very sick.

Listeria would be the only one to worry about, the placenta can protect bub from most other bugs, and unless Elle has been eating high risk listeria foods it's unlikely she has it. Even if you eat something contaminated there's only a 20-30% of you contracting listeriosis from it.

STIIIIIIIIIIILL got bad nappies here :( It's been 9 days now so I guess that means bacterial. They are not green anymore though!

I got a sample in on Fri but she woke up with it so I hope it was less than 4 hours old (that is when you're supposed to get them in). Hoping like made they find the bacteria so she can get treated.

She was happy through it but she has been sooo miserable for the last 2 days and hates having her nappy changed.

Argh now I've got myself worried that it might be something nasty that I may have contracted (as let's face it you get covered in it during the clean-up process) that may affect the pregnancy e.g. listeria. They say if a pregnant woman gets listeria the only symptom is usually flu like symptoms and I feel like I'm getting a cold

Argh! I wish I'd managed to get the sample in today

Now I have to wait until tomorrow which means no results back until Tues

I guess on the up side they very rarely give any treatment for bugs, other than stuff for rehydration which we don't need so it's not like she is missing out on treatment.

I should've got some gloves for myself I guess...just didn't even think of it.

I had campylobactor a couple of weeks ago. The med lab at BHB were very lovely! Maybe the site of me was enough to make them nice.

What a cow!!

Ashleigh had campylobactor last year and it was horrible    I went to the lab and was given everything needed for collecting the sample (I advise you do this when you have the time to wait!!) then when she poo'd I took the sample and just dropped it into the lab. Firstly let me say how excellent I have found medlab to be in the past. Staff are friendly and efficient.

However, this morning was a different story.

...Elle is awake half the night (as was I), then sleeps in until 9 (as do I) panic ensues as by 9am I am supposed to be out the door for work. Get Elle up and for the 7mth morning in a row there is poo everywhere…all over her clothes, her legs, her feet…everywhere. Green/yellow revolting stuff. I get it all over myself and the bathroom as she screams while I clean her up before having the gentle wake up and cuddle time she seems to require.

Finally after much cleaning and collecting we get out the door, Elle goes to her Nana’s and I head to Medlab…poo in hand. I wait….and wait….and wait. Finally I see someone and ask for a container…that is all I need. Rudely the lady says no, you have to get to the back of the line and she promptly turns on her heels and walks out. By this time I’ve already been waiting 45mins..poo sample warming nicely.

I had to get to work as I was already over 1 hour late. As there were still 7 people waiting for blood tests in the line in front of me I figured I’d be there for a long time.

So GAH! How on earth do you get a poo sample in on time?

I will go to my GP later and get a container and try again tomorrow morning but in the mean time my child may have some really serious condition (probably not) and as my GP pointed out, it could be listeria (probably not) which could cause me to miscarry (probably not). But still!

But GAH! I can now only work half my normal hours as I started late and have to leave early to get my Mum to the airport.

Streeeeeeeeeeeeess.
Vent over.

Anyone else had copious amounts of yellow and green mucousy poos lately??
