But because your DH cant be guaranteed to be around, I would think you will need something. It should be discussed and organised when you have your pre-op assessments etc as well. Good luck.

Just waiting to hear back about how long the wait will be, hopefully it'll be in the next few months as they said they'd fast-track me because they had to postpone it so many times.

Talked to mum about my policy, there does say something about home help, but I'm not sure if you have to be going private or public to get it. I guess I'll find out from the hospital at the time. Ta, puts my mind at ease a bit.

    Author: emz
Subject: 14896
Posted: 29 February 2008 at 5:26pm

This is incredibly random, but google isn't helping me today so I thought I'd ask here!

I'll be having an op in the next year *fingers crossed* through public which I've been waiting for for about 4 years and have had it postponed 4 times so I'm really keen to jump at the first opportunity the give me. The thing I worry about is, is there any public funding for home help to look after Jack while I recover? It's a boob op and I'm not allowed to drive for 2 weeks, not allowed to lift much for 4 weeks which kind of sucks seeing as I won't be able to lift him out of his cot or basically do anything with him other than have cuddles.

But like I said, I need the op, it's so much worse than when I went on the waiting list. If I don't get public funding, do you know if medical insurance covers home help after publicly funded ops?

Thanks for ANY words of advice etc that people could give me. I'm starting to wonder about how we're going to work it as unfortunately because of DH's job I can't rely on him to be here when I get it done (he wasn't here any of the 4 times it's been almost done then postponed).
