i tested pos for strep b during a routine smear, and the doctor said there was no point treating it unless i was pregnant, so once i was pregnant, told the midwife i had tested pos for it, she didnt redo the test, even though it had been 1 yr since i had tested pos, had the antibotics during labour....and because of this i will need to test for it again when i get pregnant even though ive tested neg for it since.

I watched my friend getting an epi put in and nearly passed out despite the fact that I am fine with blood and needles and have had two epis myself!

I guess it's not the done thing with my midwife. I was always so preggy-brained at the mw visits that I'd forget to ask about it.

Sheza, as for getting used to all of that kind of thing after childbirth...I agree!
I was so scared of needles and things before that. But now I'm like "Oh, you need to stick me with that giant needle? Sweet! Can I watch?"

maybe Kelpa..generally they give everyone whose waters have broken the same antibiotics.. Its all a bit airy fairy AYE?I am a carrier of Strep B...always get infections when run down or have wounds but has not ever been bought up in either of my pregnancies by either midwives????...was on antibiotics with Blake in Labour as Waters broke and drained all away and then nothing happened so maybe that was why...who knows?

i have been wondering about this too lately sheza, my sister was given antibiotics in her last labour because of strep and she didnt even have a swwab done! lol now im really confused, is there another way to tell if you have it or something?
i had a friend who went into prem labout at 33 or 34 weeks and had it too.

Yeah Im onto fortnightly visits now so i will ask her when i see her in teo weeks on the 18th about it.

**Im quite nervous about anything to do with 'down there" as I have discomfort during sex etc and i havent had a smear test before cos of the discomfort, the thought of metal prongs up there makes me feel sick with fear

and child birth scared the crap out of me too! lol

I didn't find it uncomfy at all. I thought it would be like a smear test but it isn't at all. You get what looks like a long cotton bud, squish it around to collect some of your vjay "juices" (not scrape it against the top like the smear does), poke it a tiny bit up your backside (I think some mw's say yes, some no for this bit?) and put it back in it's own little container.

I have a friend who's wee girl died from sepsis as a result of Strep B when she was only a few hours old.
