Genetics does play a part as I wasn't raised by my birth mother but I have the same body shape as her.

They do say first borns are more likely to have a weight issue.

I do think parents particularly mothers have a role to play, my mum was always telling me to watch my weight and most of the time I didn't need to. Now I struggle to get the kilos off.

She got quite chubby before Xmas but just had a huge growth spurt and is now scrawny again.

I was 8lb13oz which was biggish in those days I guess, and I've struggled with my weight all my life, since I was 7 or 8.

My brother was born at 34 weeks weighing over 8lb which is enormous for gestation and he is now 6'5" and solidly built but not at all overweight.

My sister was only 6lb something born at 35 weeks and like me she struggles with her weight too.

Baby bro was 7lb something and is 6 foot and scrawny.

I think genes play a far bigger role than birthweight.
