I hope it works for ya Becks!! I can't say it works alll the time... but definitely cut it down considerably. Now when she does swear it is usually to say "f**k is naughty, aye mum?"

I'm trying the thing that you do Nikki - thanks. I sat him down and said that they are naughty words and we don't say them here and if you hear anyone saying them you can tell them they are naughty words and you can't say them here.

actually , that could be an idea-if you talk to him about bad words and then ask if he would like to be a "bad word policeman" or something and watch for when people use bad words it might make him more interested in not swearing.

No suggesstions here, buatit has started very young in our house. I don't think Fay was one, i got cut up at a junction and said something like " Oh my goodness what a silly man", turned round to look at Fay and she was going "Ffffffff, ffffffff" at me and laughing at me in her "how clever am I" way.
Neil keeps saying it sounds like she is trying to say feck, wonder where she heard that

Hunter was swearing a lot, we tried telling him off then ignoring him and it seems to work, still slips up every so often. Doesn't help when older kids laugh at him. Have found that every day he says it less.

Seb started saying "oh sh*t" a couple of months ago. He heard his grandad say it once, and off he went... we basically had to ignore it till he stopped, as he's too young to discipline properly for something like that. He's slowly gone from saying it once every 20 seconds to maybe a couple of times a day at the most. Caitlyn picked up some bad words at kindy, everytime she swore I would just calmly say "we dont use words like that here hun" and move on, the more they get a reaction,the more they will do it,its also the shock factor they enjoy.

But once they start socialising with other kids they are bound to pick up a few bad words.

Ella went through a really brief phase of swearing, I used to just boomerang her to the corner, no warning or telling off or anything (other than "in this family we don't use those words"), every time she did it.
Worked for us!

Isn't it amazing how they can pick the one "Bad" word out of a conversation and repeat it. I figure it's because we emphasize those words so they stand out more.
My girls were the first children in DH's family and he has 4 younger brothers and they had real potty mouths even when I ask them not to swear around the girls, so my girls swore like troopers.
We would say to them "we don't use those words as they are not nice". Or "please don't say that word" anything along those lines and it did eventually work.

Funnily enough now all of my BIL's have kids they no longer swear

lol we use to get way worse than mustard.. we got the belt on our asses. I am at my wits end with Andrew and his foul language.

His latet word is F*%K and will scream it at the top of his lungs when we are out - terribley embarrassing.

I have tried ignoring it hoping that it would go away but that seems to make it worse.

I don't know what else to do about it now and its driving me nuts (well more nuts)

Any ideas??
