Innersprungs are better but if you can't afford it, well it's just a matter of lots more flipping over etc with a foam mattress. I think you are right Redbedrock. If you are going to use foam then one of those plastic mattress wraps is a good idea to stop the mould spores from being inhaled by baby (I could be completely wrong - memory not what it used to be).

Liam's still in his basinette too but we plan on getting an innersprung one. I just figure I am much more comfortable on a sprung mattress than on a foam one.
Wasn't there research years ago about mould forming in foam mattresses that were linked with SIDS? We bought a cot and a form mattress came with it, after few months we bought an innersprung, definitely much better.

I would say go for the innersprung one, they last longer and are a bit more hard-wearing. We were going to use a foam one but the child birth educater at our antenatal class recommended using an innersprung. To tell you the truth I can't remember her reasoning but it was pretty strong.
