I still dont know what the actual problem was but it just sorted itself out. On the right side I had to feed Hannah with her positioned under my arm, she kept coming off and screaming if I tried doing it the other way. Like the others said, try your midwife, lactation consultant or la leche league. People will keep telling you to just persevere and that isnt really any help at all is it (I hated getting told that!) but I am sure it will get better. I made a deal with myself at 6 weeks that I would continue until Hannah was 12 weeks, and if we were still having probs I would stop. Well 12 weeks came and went and I totally forgot about my little deal! Hang in there.

A few times he has wanted to feed and feed and feed then he gets so full he powerchucks and is all happy again. There are lots of gastric reflux sites out there, google one and look at the symptoms, its really quite common. Get it checked out with a lactation consultant quick as coz reflux is painful, they don't have to spill to have reflux, it might be slient. The consultant should pick it up by watching baby feed. Don't delay I feel terrible i never picked it up until he was almost 3 months old! I have heard that la leche are great.

good luck.

    Author: mum2paris
Subject: 1531
Posted: 13 February 2006 at 9:10pm

When he 'slips back' does it hurt? or does it just not look like he's on properly.... sometimes around that age a few mums have found that baby starts increasing your milk supply, so when you let down, it's pretty forcefull and baby will slip back and not suck as well as they could simply cos if they stayed in the original position they'd choke on the letdown. with the unsettled thing - that further probably points to a growth spurt - but definately try and get help thru lactation consultant or la leche league. Ayja had all sorts of weird probs, but i managed to persevere somehow, and in the end she settled down again.. for a while she would do the same as Jack, slip back, make clicky sucky noises and choke splutter and not go back on. I hope you find a solution - the little probs can sometimes bring a whole lot of stress to something that shouldn't be too stressful.
