Leo's only been in cloth since 5mths when his poos were already pretty solid so I don't have any experience with runny newborn poo. But any stains I've ever had on my nappies have always come out in the sun - it's incredible stuff those UV rays!

p.s. as for detergent I use the recommended amount of Eco-store powder - half a scoop for half a load, with build-up problems. I love my front loaders as well, managed to talk DH into getting one as we were getting cloth nappies! I don't do any extra rinsing, pre-wash etc however I have always used disposable liners.
Your Mum should know how much powder to use as it will be a different one to the one you use a top loader.

You don't have to use half the amount of powder if you use ecostore. We use the recommended amount on the box, no build up whatsoever.

Warm/Hot washes usually make poo stains set. I have never used liners, for runny newborn poos I just rinsed in the laundry tub and then washed and now the poos are more solid they just peel off the fleece and drop into the loo. My naps do have a few stains though
You mum may buy one of the powders designed for front loaders. With nappies you should use half the recommended powder anyway so with the front loader use a quarter of what you normally would, or half the recommended amount if she has front loader powder.

Coming from the UK where no one has had a top loader since the 70s I find it quite strange that they are so popular here. That's great to hear. I really wanted to take her new nappies to show them off All our families are really doubtful that they'd work as well as sposies.

Do liners work with newborn poos? They are still really runny so I thought it would just soak straight through but I've never used a liner so I'm not sure what they catch.

So from the sounds of it, we should probably rinse them first, wash them in a warm wash with half the normal amount of powder and then do an extra rinse afterwards. Thank you

I love my front loader too, and no you need to do anything different, they clean just as well (if not better) than a top loader, they just do it with less powder and less water. can't offer advice but have to say, I love, love, LOVE my front loader!!! I have a friend with a front-loader and she said she just puts her nappies on a cold rinse cycle first and then a warm wash with detergent after. She said to take note that front-loaders use less powder though. Hope that helps!

We've just started using our new BumGenius nappies and love them. But we're going away over easter and my parents have a front loading washing machine. For those of you with front loaders, because they use less water, should the nappy's be washed differently or do you just pop them in and wash like normal.
