thank you all - they arent family to me but family of a good friend.

PMs were much appreciated and I have passed on some details already to the grandma to talk it over with them this weekend when they are able to breath....

If you do a googgle search it should come up with heap's of support group's. I dont think they know where to turn at moment or what to take in or feel. Hi there,

I work as a support worker with people who have downs as well as people with other conditions.

People with Downs are great people to be around!

If they were wanting to talk to someone who works with people with downs then I'd be happy to (I've worked with people that have it with range of extents)

Just thought I'd offer support from a different angle like Emachan, if they were interested.

If they are in the Howick/Botany area, my Mum knows the lady who runs a downs support group. Bombshell, the mum of a school friend of mine has adopted a couple of downs children. The youngest was 3 mo when she adopted him and is now almost 4. It must be a shock to not know, and even though it is easy enough to say, I think that if you had a child with a disability of some sort, downs would definately not be the worst you could come across.

that would be awesome...the whole family are reeling...and altho coming around and they know that downs kids are the most lovable kids of all at times...that realisation will have to come to them in their own experience....

my neice has downs, and was missed in the scans so a complete shock. SIL has found that there is a huge support network out there, I could get some info if that helps.

I have worked with a child who has downs for the past year and a bit- I'm not sure if I could be much help but just thought I would offer my support. There are some great agencies out there and lots of support for children with downs. In Christchurch they have a wonderful facility called the Champion Centre where kids under 5 go once or twice a week for Speech therapy, Occupational therapy etc.
Every situation is different with downs and there is nothing to stop them from having a pretty 'normal' life, with the right support from family and friends.

and if so would you (or families you know if that is the case) be prepared to speak to a family who just had a bubba who is downs. It has come as a huge shock to the family and dad especially would like to talk to people about this.

PM if need be. They would like to email initially. I know them and the extended family well. They missed a scan which would have shown the risk and are shattered from what has come as a huge shock to them.
