Author: Roksana
Subject: 1560
Posted: 20 February 2006 at 9:17am

I came back to work last week, Zaara was 15 weeks old. I only work Mon - Thur (for now) and am only 3min Drive from home. And since Zaara does not take the bottle I go home 3 times, (on my break) to feed her.....So its good!

But I have to admit, before I had to come back to work I was thinking of quiting the job. I could not imagine leaving my baby for an hour....but I knew we could not afford it and this job was way too good to loose. Once I was back it only got easier each day...mind you I do see her 3 times between 8.30 - 5.

Be strong....just think that you are doing this for your bub. Other than that I have no advice!!!

    Author: Maya
Subject: 1560
Posted: 17 February 2006 at 8:44pm

I was studying full time right thru pregnancy and when Maya was first born, she started daycare at about 18 weeks. It was hard to start with, I would imagine her dying or having an accident at daycare and feel soooo guilty. Some days I just couldn't bear to leave her, but I had to.
Now she is nearly 3 and still at the same daycare (I work fulltime) and she absolutely loves it.
The best advice I can give is to not put too much pressure on yourself to do everything. For the first few months, the housework got done very occasionally to say the least, now that I have the extra $$$ I hired a cleaner so that I don't have to spend the precious few hours I have at home cleaning etc.
Also, a contingency plan is crucial - if your childcare falls thru, if bubs gets sick etc. how will your work respond? In my experience employers are really understanding if you are up front with them from day one about what your needs are.
I wrote an article on returning to work for OHbaby!, you can find it here. Also, keep an eye out over the next month or so, I am interviewing working Mum's about what works/doesn't work for them, to put together a profile of tips etc.
Hope this helps

    Author: lizzle
Subject: 1560
Posted: 17 February 2006 at 10:02am

I went back to work when Jake was three months old. My work was an hour away so I left at 8am, got home at 7pm, o spent about 30 mins a day with Jake. Hubby could only work part-time (visa problems) so looked after him during the day, and then he went to daycare.
We could spend the weekend together however. it was really tough, especially when Jake was hurt and would go to Lewis rther than me. the way I dealt with it was to make those 30mins a "special" time for me and Jake. We would do the same things, have a bath together, get dressed, story and bottle. Lewis was often home at this time, but would be cooking tea for us at that time. So we had "mummy and Jake" time. During the weekend, we tried to spend one day at hiome, and another day out with Jake, to the pool, park or something like that. it was a tough year, but we did the best we could. Now I'm a SAHM with Jake and taine, and I (guiltily admitting) miss work somedays!! like this morning, after dressing jake, he dumped a bowl of weetbix on his ehad while I was on the phone. grrrr.
