Rach - that's awesome!! You should totally learn. There are heaps of ladies from TNN in Christchurch that would help you - otherwise if you go into Knitworld they'll show you how.

www.knittinghelp.com is also a great website with videos on how to knit.

Welllll I don't know about reducing her stuffing... perhaps?

All I know is that Hannah used to wet through EVERYTHING I could possibly put her in... first it was because not enough stuffing, then when I finally got enough stuffing in to cope with her wees the nappy was too bulky and gaped at the legs! ARGH. (Oh yeah, and she used to absolutely soak through disposables to the point of waking up and having to change her nappy, pyjamas and sheets)

The only thing that fixed it was a wool cover... mine was a designer bums merino cover (because I didn't know how to knit) but a soaker would have been just as good if not better as it wouldn't have been as bulky.

So, give it a go!

Yep they are great for using overnight. Ok, I haven't used soakers before, so just have a quick question. Are they good for using over pockets overnight? Sophie sleeps for 12-14 hours, so her night nappy is HUGE! I have been using 6 layers of hemp and 6 layers of MF to get her through the night. Would I be best to use a soaker?? And then maybe reduce the amount of stuffing in her nappy??

Heeeeeeaps of patterns out there for soakers (wool covers) - let me know if you need one... do you have someone who could knit for you??

And yes, they need to be made out of yarn that is 80% wool (or more) - I prefer to use 100% wool.

Punk Rock Knitters soaker is an easy circular pattern - but not every one has circs.

Wool covers also need to be lanolised - but you can do that with lansinoh or purelan if you have it at hand. If you are using them over pockets to stop leaks at night then you probably don't need to lanolise them.

Wool is fabulous as it absorbs 30% of its own weight and breathes as well as keeps warm.

yes to pockets as covers and pure wool, i dont believe that synthetic wool is suitable for soaker.
i think if you did a google search you would find heaps of patterns.

Woolen soakers need to be lanolised once it is made up. And those woollen cover things can you use any wool or is it a special kind (I know nothing about wool) and it there a good pattern for one on any websites?
