I went for hearing tests and saw an ENT specialist and also had an MRI (basically cos it was in one ear not both which can mean that there are other ear related problems). I was offered counselling to get techniques designed to help you ignore the ringing but I declined it as I can mostly ignore it anyway, it just gets worse when I have a headache or am over tired etc. Listening to radio static was one of the techniques that was mentioned but I think I would find it more annoying and it would probably stop DH from sleeping.

Good luck at the docs, in the meantime perhaps he could try some camomile tea before bed.

He just used to leave the radio on in his room constantly at a very low volume - not loud enough that you could even hear it was on unless you were trying to, but enough to generate a bit of a background noise to mask it.
