Just thought I'd let you all know about a great website that you can get books from pretty cheaply...

www.bookdepository.co.uk, its an English site so all prices are in pounds but they do free shipping and their books are really well priced. Michaela loves being read to or flicking through her books herself.

She has been given a couple of beautiful books from her aunty and uncle in Brisbane called "I love you Little Mouse" and "Thank you Little Mouse". They are lovely stories with beautifully illustrated, textured pages and velvety covers. She also likes "Guess how much I love you", sparkle books and she her golden books - her favourite golden books are "the little red caboose" and "Scuffy the tugboat".

we got heaps when whitcoulls marked the books all for a $1 one day...BIG mistake on their part but SCORE on mine!
we also love the $2 shop ones...esp the animals etc.

i also buy a few like the dr seuss ones on sale in packs etc...

ATM Ella loves book that she can interact with, so her favs are Spot (opening the flaps) and any touch and feel book (she really loves that's not my kitten and the kitten fur at the back is always wet from her trying to eat it).

Because I used to work for Whitcoulls, I mostly buy from books from them...just brought a whole heap after Christmas when they had 50% off bargain books (got some really good deals i.e. a spot boardbook for around $3). They usually have a sale around late May/early June so will probably stock up on books then.

I used to love all the enid blyton books- Mum2paris I know the books you mean, think they are 'Adventures of the Faraway Tree (or something similar).

There is a book i absolutely love that my girls have, It's called if kisses were colours. It's so sweet.

We have heaps of neat hairy maclary ones, i also love eric Carle books - "hungry cterpillar" and other one sin that collection.

Just me and my dad - type books you know the ones with that cute hedgehog in it.

berenstein bears books are a hit here lately, and dr seuss books

we get lots at the whitcoulls sales, we have alot of a lot of books too.

I can't wait till paris is old enough for roald dahl.. i loved all his books as a kid

ooooh, and the one by enid blyton - i have all mums old enid blyton books, and i especially love the one (darn it i can't remember the name i'm tired.... the one about that tree, with the saucepan man and moonface and the ladder that goes to different worlds up the top of the tree....)

The super shed is great for baby books, they are 25cents each and it doesn' really matter if they get destroyed cos they aren't in the best condition anyway. Hannah is really keen on fairy tales at the moment. Bugger tho cos they are really long! the boys have all my old books - so we have four full shelves of books, and five giant stoarage containers - i rotate.

our favourites are:
"we'er going on a bear hunt" - this is now Jake's favourite....not mine - he sings it all the time - as we look for tstuff in the supermarket "we're going on a spaghetti hunt, we're going to get a big can"
Taine loves Noddy - but the books are kinda hard to find - Mum has got me some from trademe so waiting on them. in the meantime we have some library books.
the warehouse sell a range of books by "priddy books" - fabulous pictures, realy cheap. i get these for my nieces and nephews.
hairy Maclarey is slowly making a come back, after the disasterous reading of 2007, when everytime we saw Scarface claw Taine would scream hysterically, and Jake would argue about Hercules Morse "NOT A HORSE MAMA"

We have a Thomas (we have all of the books), a Mr Men (he also has the whole series all 46 books), Spot and Little Critters Fan here.

My BF works at Whitcolls so she gets the books for me (with a nice discount too) and I also get them from the Warehouse.

I got a whole heap of books from the Kindy I was working at before I had Andrew and they were cleaning out their library and I got to take what I wanted.

DH was never encouraged to read and I was so i'm continuing on my family tradition there.

Oh my gosh YES the $2 shop!! I totally forgot about that!

We have these AWESOME chatter chatter books from the 123 dollar shop... there's an animal one and a 'jobs' one. There's a little bit at the bottom that you move up and down so the mouth looks like it's talking. It's really good and especially a good dads one (DH does all the voices.. although he does a gay voice for the man who's a gardener lol and I tell him off). The best books I have ever found are from the 123DOLLAR store! Ok so Whitcoulls probably has a better range but honestly, they have really beautiful books for children that are often numbers/colours/alphabet and even stories and board books too! They are often only $2 or $4 and I have seen similar books elsewhere for upwards of $15! Sam eats all of his books and pushes them around the room and bends the covers but he will sit there and go 'gudgudgudglahblahgud' at his books like a chicken!

I love it when kids I know get to about 8, then I can buy them their first Roald Dahl book (usually the first) I always buy " The Twits" that was my first, and I loved it

We buy mainly from The Warehouse. It's my vice, I have to control myself

Also when I was working, we had one of those companies (actually there was 3 different ones) that brought in "stuff" and left it in the staffroom. We could look at it and order what we wanted. I got sooo many cheap books from there.

And a couple of years ago I went to a Scholastic sale (at their warehouse somewhere out Tamaki way I think???) and got sooo many books for my classroom for crazy prices of like $2. I've never been able to find out that sale again though... Oh I love crinkly books, I bought Spencer one from Countdown for $8, best thing I have ever bought.

We also buy lots from warehouse, the board ones, he loves all his books and will play with them for ages as well as me actually reading them to him. We also have a vtech nursery rhyms book which is interactive that he loves too. (although I don't love hearing twinkle twinkle little star played 20 times in a row).

Noah's absolute fave is Hairy Maclarey. He just loves those stories - esp the bit with Scarface Claw. So we have a few of those ones now but he only really likes Scarface Claw and the classic Hairy Maclarey. Oh and he has this Halloween one where it goes "Whoooo are you" and he is really in to that at the moment and sits there and reads it to me now with his little "whooo whoooo" on all the pages. Cute!!

Maya's fave as a baby was That's Not My Teddy, and now the gremlins also have That's Not My Monster and That's Not My Mermaid.
Spot was also a big hit when Maya was a bit younger, Peepo, Hairy McLary, Bunny My Honey... she has so many books!
The gremlins love two books they were given for their birthday about Googly Eyes, and any touchy feely books, and they're big into animal books atm.
We probably own close to 500 childrens books. Ellas faves are the farmyard sounds one and "i love you sun I love you moon"...that is the one she likes me to read her best of all. Her upstairs book is "five little xmas trees"..she loves that one!

And we have a squeaky one of hippos...I say "hippo" in a real deep voice and she giggles...and the tiger one we use to learn to count...we are up to 1 2 3 4...and pointing.

She also favours a few fairy tale ones i got (grannie doesnt like them!)...but we make up the story as we go...and a snappy dinosaur one that daddy is really good at reading to her.

Her fave and only grannie reads it successfully to her for some reason is "Corderoy" - apparently the raggedy ann doll in the story is ELLA and they have all sorts of adventures going to the shops for mummy...it is a book but words have been majorly changed! Spot is GREAT!

Daniel loves the wiggles colour book (theres a pic in the photo gallery section on a thread sparkle started) of me and him looking at it. It's got sparkly bits in it. It was about $5 from the warehouse

Following on from Stacey's post about 1000 books, I am wondering what books you have and what are hits in your household?

So far Tom has a small but growing collection of Hairy McLarey, a spot book, a farm animals book, some sparkly books and all my little golden books etc.
