I am not going to worry too much, man breathing in the chch winter air would probably give you cancer faster anyway.

God even sleep gives you cancer these days.

However the 7 is the recognised symbol for all 'other' types of plastic and this includes biodegradable types of plastic so just because it has a 7 on it doesn't necessarily mean it is Polycarbonate.

Found this which gives a guide to what the numbers mean

http://www.plastics.org.nz/_attachments/docs/plastic-identification-code-3.pdf

Check out the link to the Plastic Myths site as well assome of these are quite funny (ie the number on the bottom of the bottle indicates the number of times you can use it - ha ha ha) http://www.plasticsmythbuster.org/

Edited by KABJ99

I am taking no chances and buying new bottles. Anyone know the safe brands?

For those that didnt see it Canada has banned polyc bottles as they leach Bisphenol A into the bottles contents. A study has shown that this can cause cancer and affect hormones.

The following was taken from a website:

Exposure to Bisphenol A is Widespread

Bisphenol A is most commonly used to make clear polycarbonate plastic for consumer products, such as baby bottles. Through use, this plastic breaks down and leaches bisphenol A into liquids and food to which it comes into contact.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found bisphenol A in the urine of over 95% of people they tested.
Alarmingly, the median level of bisphenol A in humans is higher than the level that causes adverse effects in animal studies.

Edited by Topsy
