I don't think its the some are more prone than others. It may have something to do with the way people do their washing. Though I'm a lazy bum and do as little as possible yet I don't get build up.

Could also be the type of washing powder?

ALso how often people use creams etc. We never use cream and only use curash rarely and I've never had to strip my nappies apart from when I forgot that some were sitting in a bucket for ages. I've only ever needed to use the dish washing liquid method after a customer tried to return 18 nappies and 36 inserts that were ALL coated in gloop from the "new & improved" Eco Store bum cream Took me hours to get them half decent! I wouldn't advise using a scrubbing brush though as you could damage the fleece.

I'd recommend the baking soda and white vinegar every so often if you think you need to strip them. Personally, I've stripped Caitlin's nappies maybe 2-3 times at the most (she's been in the current size since she was 5 months old). We use Persil and when I remember add some Dettol in wash stuff or tea tree oil.

Leo has a bacterial infection on his bottom at the moment so I gave his nappies a hot wash (cold rinse first) and put Dettol in the fabric softener compartment to try and kill any bugs that might be lurking. I have to say that everything smells fantastic!!! He's in sposies until his bottom is all cleared up (don't want to risk reinfecting) but can't wait to get him back in that lovely cloth

I've never stripped my nappies, stripped my inserts once coz they smelled, but since I've started using only flats and prefolds as inserts I don't have that problem. Sometimes mine smell a bit (especially now when they are getting dried inside) so once in a while I'll put them on a hot wash and that seems to work. I have never needed to strip Sam's nappies either. I did put a little baking soda in a few weeks ago to brighten them up a bit as I use soap nuts though.

i've always thought that was a weird way of getting rid of build up - adding more detergent...

some people swear by baking soda and vinegar in the wash.

i've never done a strip like stacey described but occasionally i do a hot wash and throw some baking soda or vinegar in the wash, but not very often at all.

Stripping just removes any build up of washing powder or creams (if you have been using them) on the fleece or inserts depending on what you strip.

Theres a couple of ways but the most effective is getting some dishwashing liquid and a dish brush and giving them a light scrub then popping them in the wash without washing powder to get rid of all the dishwashing liquid.

It's only done as often as you need/want.
