You know the best thing tho? When she does have an explosion...and I grab her legs and say feewwwwwwww Zaara yacky yacky.....she gives me this huge smile.....I clean up her mess with a smile on my face....ahhh the things that make us happy!!!!

God the crawlers are starting to be a bit on the small side for Zaara now and she is only 4 months old.....I hate the jelly like stuff on her bottom...thanks Annie I might try that. I swear by Huggies for Josiah - mostly because they are so small fitting! Josiah is now 10 months old, and is just 7kg... the other nappies are too big on him! yeah the gel stuff is not nice which is one of the reasons I use Fuzzis now too. In the morning I just give Joey a nice wash with a flannel to get rid of it. hey, Roksana, try using vaseline on her "privates" it stops the gel thingy going everywhere.
We love huggies too, but uses Utra if there aren't huggies on special. That said he has leaked through the ultras twice these last 2 nights, so... used Pams ultimate last shopping as none of the other ones were on special, and they were ok for day, but leaked through a couple of nights, and the leg bands didn't contain explosive poos.
We also use "real nappies" (the brand) and they are basically a bummis wrap (awsom awesome wrap) and a folded flat nappy. I use Budget, they are cheap & I haven't had a problem with them since Treasures (I think) took over the budget nappies contract. I used huggies & treasures ultra when Alex was first born, I tended to go with whatever was cheapest when I went shopping, then I started using the budget for during the day to cut costs & now I use them at night too.
For me it was a cost thing as I found those three brands worked fine.
The cloth ones look good (fuzzibums, etc) but they would never work for me. I have enough washing to do as it is with my man Spencer going through 2-5 pairs of overalls a day (yay for cow poop & mud NOT!) plus his evening clothes and then mine & Alex's clothes as well. I use Fuzzibunz during the day but used disposables for the first months which was great because I found the whole new mum thing enough to worry about without trying cloth nappies too. I am really glad I switched later though...

I was using cloth on a newborn but it was heaps of extra washing cos we had to use 2 at a time so we changed to disposable but will go back when hes a bit bigger and i have more time for washing and also we had heaps of disposables already so we used them up. Ok

HUGGIES - Made micheals exzema really bad, but were great for Jayden and Abby but slighty smaller fitting.

GIGGLES - Great for Micheal and Jayden during the day but they would wet through them at night. Perfect for Abby day and night.

ULTRA - Good for all of the kids from memory.

BUDGET - Not as absorbant so tried once and never used again.

I didn't use cloth naps with a newborn so I can't really give advice on that (apart from saying that it is hard to size newborns as they have such variable bum sizes!) but the washing is almost irrelevant. I think you'll find that you'll be doing so many damn loads of laundry that one more won't make the slightest bit of difference! hehehehe

Most people find it more comforting to use disposables for the first few weeks until they figure out the motherhood thing and then give cloth a go.

yeah that gel is weird aye? doesnt happen to my girls very much... only very rarely... but i change them quite frequently, does that have anything to do with it?

linelle- its really just that, a weird gel like stuff (whats in the nappies to soak up the urine i think) and sometimes it leaks out but like i say i havent found it to be a problem.
and like gsmum said.. there are other alternatives like cloth napppies and teenies etc.... have you thought about them?

we used giggles on jack til he slept through the night, then used huggies and giggles.
i found giggles were great but i didn't like the gel stuff that huggies left behind...and of course the cost.
we now use sealer nappies for day and night and they are brilliant! i just got another box today and it was $73 for 208 nappies. but that's the large size so the smaller sizes have more in the box.

Mine felt a little different - like tickling on one side, not really like butterflies, and that was about 15 or 16 weeks. They turned into kicks about 24-25 weeks, and were unmistakable! DH could feel them then too, and the novelty didn't wear off, even on the day I had him!

We're using both Treasures Ultra and Babylove sposies until he is a little bigger and I can start using cloth. Treasures Ultra are excellent, though they're a little big even on a larger than average newborn. Babylove are terrible! We got some from Pak N Save because they were on special, but regret not spending the extra and getting more Treasures. He's had a few leaks already, and they leave globs of the absorbent gel stuff around his genitals, which I'm not happy with. 2) I bought loads of treasures new born before bub was born and I regret that......it use to leak. I bought Huggies and they are great!!!

1) i describe baby's early movements as the flutters but also one i like to say is like the tug on a fishing line when you are fishing, does that make sense??? have only felt the flutters at this stage. there is no mistaking movements when bubs is bigger though!
2) when both my daughters were newborn we used cheaper nappies (giggles) and found they gave them really nasty nappy rash so quickly switched to huggies nappies and have found them wonderful.
i suffered nasty nappy rash when i was young too, so maybe its just a sensitive skin thing for my girls, because i know that a lot of people use giggles etc, with no probs.
we have also used treasures ultras with no luck either, given nappy rash quickly.....

you might need to just try a few different brands until you find one that you are happy with.

We bought Huggies just coz it's a brand we know and trust already (yes, even though we haven't already had bubs), but we may well change what we use depending on how they go once bubs is born. Not stupid questions at all!!
1 - is a "fluttering" feeling you should feel between about now and 20 weeks (sometimes a bit more) for me I felt it at the bottom (middle) of my ribs.
2- There is a topic about this somewhere which I will try to bump but it all depends on budget, sex of baby (some say huggies are better for boys), and personal preference. Since Arna was born I have brought Cosies (from Hamilton), Huggies, Budget, Giggles, Ultra and Babysoft... I will list what I think in my opinion and you can see what other people say too... (also it is trial and error!)
Huggies - Good for newborn, when the grow the nappies seem to get a bit small around the waist (and too big around the legs) - all depends on babys build. Great for babies and toddlers who sleep all night
Cosies - Cheaper version of huggies, have "wetness" indicators that "smudge" when baby wees. Can buy from Hamilton and Auckland and online...
Budget - Gave Arna a rash all the time, good for daytime use or when they poo heaps and you seem to go through heaps of nappies.
Giggles - Have been using these religiously for the last 4 - 5 months, suits Arna's skin type, Wee-ing frequency and lasts her all night quite cheap on special ($13 last week for a bulk pack of 36)
Ultra - Used these when she was newborn, can't really remember much!!
Babysoft - Absorbancy wise they were the same with cosies / huggies but left all the jelly stuff behind.

1. How do i know if the baby is kicking, i know that people say about the butterflies i don't quite know.

2. What is the difference between disposable nappies e.g. treasures and huggies etc and which ones are the best to buy?
