I feel kind of sorry for them because that job must SUCK but I must admit that I hate the dinner time cold calls too. I hate the insurance ones. DH's cousin works for an insurance company so we get a damn good deal with our insurance and I keep telling them NO I am happy with my insurance and end up hanging up.

My husband gets courtesy calls from our bank and it totally drives me bonkers. They give out our number to other departments who also insist on giving a courtesy call and offering their services.
The last one the guy rang up at 4.30pm in the after noon and I was PISSED as it was the third day in a row.
I asked him if it was a courtesy call, he mumbled the likes of "maybe". I told him that if he wished to talk to my husband then he would either have to ring him at work (which they don't do for some completely mental reason) or call after 5.30pm (they all knock off at 5). Otherwise I was going to have a word with his manager and take all of our business of them, as I am fed up to the back teeth with blinking courtesy calls to our home when my husband is NEVER home selling bollocks like holidays and insurance

I'm torn between thinking they're just doing their job so I want to be polite to them, and resenting the fact that these companies are using MY phone line and MY time to get pushy about something that I don't want.  I haven't had the guts to hang up on them yet 'cause it's the company that pees me off, not the worker... usually.  Last one I had was for SKY - I said 'no' three, THREE times before she said "but why not?!?"  "we don't watch that much TV"   "ah, well that'll be because there's nothing good on TV and you need SKY!".   Well, points to her for thinking on her feet but even after then I said 'no' twice more.  Sheesh.

I dont really even give them a chance. It's so easy to hang up I do that as soon as I figure out they're just calling to sell me something. We get them all the time from toll call or internet companies. We have a very persistent ‘hotel deal’ company that keeps calling here with the ‘you asked us to follow you up’ line. Whatever!

I was reading a newsletter today though that gave a hint something like …”when you get one of ‘those’ calls, politely ask the caller to “hold the line”, and then put the phone down and walk away.”
Apparently when they tested it and checked the phone 30 mins later the ‘offenders’ had hung up…not surprising! Beats arguing with someone who doesn’t want to listen to you anyhow.

Man, I’d hate that job. Although they drive me up the wall, I feel really sorry for them.

We get them all the time and they are usually ring from Aussie, so caller ID is great for that, I just don't answer! those holiday people once tried to rip me off. i posted about it. they wanted my credit card details because i had "won" something. I went to the paper in Gisborne as they had rung several people in the neighb ourhood, and they denied the whole thing! and then another woman was in the paper saying how she was ripped off by them giving her credit card details. I always try to be polite as I figure that they are just doing a job and earning a living. But if they are really pushy then I will just say " no thanks" and hang up. They always seem to ring around dinner time. We dont get a lot actually - I wonder if it is because our phone number is ex-directory?

I get it with insurance telemarketers and before they get a word in I politely say I work for an insurance company and have good cover. Sometimes a persistant telemarketer will try and push me saying they can do a cheaper deal to which I always respond - my cover is free, how can you get it cheaper? That usually shuts them up pretty quickly.

Hmm I think its rude that they call OUR house expecting US to listen to THEIR CRAP! My mother is far too polite to tell them to rack off, but heck if it's Dad or myself that answers the phone they get an earful! Espesh the hours some of them call here, midnight the other night we received one phone call.

I had similar issues with American Express - and they ended up sending me a card anyway with some ridiculous preapproved limit even though I'd said I didn't want OR need one! The worst part though, was that I had also made it clear if anything turned up it would go straight in the bin, and a few months later I got a statement asking for a minimum payment! Fortunately I put my foot down and asked for someone higher up to sort it out and they canceled the invoice... I'm too polite too but those holiday people drive me nuts! At least 3 calls per week. I got pretty tetchy with them the other day as the lady lied stating that she'd spoken to my husband who told her we were interested and to call back. He said no such thing. I told her for the THIRD time that we were not interested and did not want to receive any more calls and then she called back the very next day! Saying she was following up as we had asked her to!! Grrrrr. I just had to suffer through 5+ minutes of some sales spiel for some hotel offer before I finally got a word in edgewise....that word being no...I even then managed to explain that I work in travel and get extremely good rates already worldwide so really don't need thier offer...still she persists in saying I could try it and if I like it purchase more packages next year! WTF?? Which part of "NO I WORK IN TRAVEL AND DON'T NEED IT!" was unclear???
