I've had to break windows to get in twice and both times it was covered by the LL's insurance so def worth checking. I'd just mention it to the landlord and see what his reaction is. We have a cat door in a large window in our lounge. The cats must have come flying through pretty fast and now the window is badly cracked - we are pretty sure any light tap will shatter it - ewww and there was a very large rat in the hallway so maybe they were wrestling with it to get it inside

Anyway we are renting but I was just looking at my isurance docs from our old house insurance and broken windows are fixed free with no excess. Do you think it would be cheeky to ask our landlord to fix it? It shouldn't cost him anything.... but it is our fault.
