My waters broke in bed - I was having an afternoon nap at the time - two weeks before my dd. Luckily I managed to make it to the bathroom before they gushed. Heard and felt a popping sound. Labour never got established though so was induced 2 days later - and then got a show. Talk about mixed up.

Heh heh - almost as confusing as actually trying to figure out the wee monsters when they are here!
Continuing on my merry way is kind of the theory I was working on, but after the mw appointment where she showed me what BH were (yes, I'm an idiot) now they are all I can feel so of course all I can think about is going into labour. Ignorance was so much easier! They're tightenings but also low down crampy type feelings, which is why I'm wondering. Haven't increased in intensity or frequency though, so 99% sure it's just BH.

Hmmm, no show here or waters breaking/leaking prior to labour. For me, BH felt completely different from 'real' labour...BH were uncomfy and my bump went real hard, but not painful at all. Contractions were more like really low period-type pains that got more and more intense (and you had to breathe through them). I've never used EPO, it kinda grossed me out, but then I went early so never had that overdue thing.
As for how to know if they are real contractions, I had no idea with the gremlins. I had irritable uterus and had contractions every 10 mins for the last 6 weeks, and even after I'd had my waters broken and synto started to start "real" contractions, I wasn't sure if they were real or not.
I just muddled thru on the theory that if the contractions got worse or closer together then I'd call my midwife, but they never did.

I did EPO for 3 days and had sex the night before Jack was born, so I'd say give it a go!

If you take a shower, BH are supposed to go away. I was in the early stages of labour with nothing progressing for 2 weeks with regular but weak contractions. I had a show with my dd mazzy, and was getting contractions 9-10 mins apart 12 hours later. Loads of people dont get to have a show as such as their waters break and it comes out with that. My waters didnt break at all and I had them broken whilst in labour. A show can happen up to 2 weeks before labour too.

BH are a good thing. They are preparing you for labour (or so I have been told).

Dont know much about the Evening primrose so cant add to that.

I had no show and no breaking of waters.

I went for a big walk which I'm sure helped things along.

Had a show and 8 hrs later my waters broke, then straight into contractions. 3 hrs later they were 2 mins apart and thats where they stayed until delivery by emergency cs. Everyone is different though, and i have to say i was looking forward to the gentle build up they tell you about in antenatal class.......no such luck!! Thats what i'm hoping for this time round.

No show here, no waters breaking either. Just very strong period like pains (but enough for me to want to stop and take a breath in) at regular (12min) intervals for most of the day before I went into labour. I had a show with my second but not with my first. I also got the runs with my first, this usually happens to clear the bowl to make way for bubs.

I had what I thought were BH often for two weeks(I dialated 1cm each week), they gradually turned into real labour.

I think the rule is if they are regular(5minutes between each one etc) and they are lasting longer or getting stronger it would be worth ringing your midwife to let her know whats happening. She might just check up out then tell you to go home and get some rest until they get stronger. Ok, so having been induced two weeks early last time I'm a bit clueless when it comes to this whole waiting for baby deal and have a few questions - please help!

Now that I've finally figured out what BH contractions feel like, I'm feeling them ALL the time this afternoon. Does that mean anything? What do they do and should I pay any attention or am I just driving myself nuts?

Does everyone get a show before they go into labour, or is it not a pre-requisite? Do I have to have one before going into labour?

My MW has suggested Evening Primrose Oil - has anyone else used this and how did the make you feel? Do you think it worked?
