I am a planner and thought we had our routine down so that I could start making plans with people again, guess I am going to have to try and get used to going with the flow again grrr!
I know all babies are different but how long did it take your baby to get past this in between stage and definately on 1 nap a day? Weeks? months?

ETA: not sure if quiet time would work as he doesn't really sit still. Although I could put him in the highchair with a little snack and the tv on - he is a fan of late afternoon soaps and MASH, or is that me??

Edited by Linzy

I would go with the flow... could you give her some 'quiet' time maybe in the morning.. I know you may not choose to, but my boy will someetimes sit happily in front of a dvd as a 'rest' time rather than a nap...? e.g. he had a late morning nap the other day but at about 4pm was getting grizzly, so I sat him in the chair with his blankey and put a movie on forhim while I got tea ready, it just got him past his really grumpy time and I was able to do dinner?
I'm lucky as he will normally still have 2 naps... only if we're out it may get mucked up. I KNOW he still needs those two naps, but some kids just don't need as much sleep eh! all the best!

Charlotte dropped to one sleep at about 1 year old. I was putting her down in the morning and she was just mucking about and wouldn't go to sleep. Some days she would but they would only be short naps. It really is just a transition stage between dropping the sleep and actually being able to stay up until the arvo sleep. They get it after a while and can cope well and things go back to a pretty set routine. It is just a real pain trying to get your way through this stage.

It will get easier and it is completely normal. You just have to go with it day by day.

All the best

Edited by lottieandharry

    Author: myfullhouse
Subject: 17137
Posted: 12 May 2008 at 10:08am

I am so totally confused about Jack's naps now, although they have always been the thing I have struggled with. Jack has never been a good napper, well sleeper in general. Often naps are only 45mins long which I eventually stopped fighting against. He was usually waking at 7am, nap at 10am and then another nap starting between 2 and 3pm depending on what we were doing, the length of his morning nap, and then asleep by 7.30pm.

Last week for 2 days in a row his naps were 30mins and it was a real struggle to get him to go down for his afternoon nap, one day finally getting him down at about 4.30pm which then pushed out bedtime. So I thought maybe he is mving to 1 nap a day. I decided to go cold turkey and keep him up till 11.30/noon and then put him down which is OK if I keep him occupied. On the days I tried this the naps lasted anywhere between 1hr and 3hrs!!

Today he was ready for a sleep at 9am and I can just hear that he has woken - just shy of an hour.

So is he ready for 1 nap or is something else going on? I am really confused.
Can hear banging over the monitor, had better go and check out what he is distroying!!
