My gosh that's so rude of WINZ, Emma.  Fair enough to complain, too. 

Ah, I was just feeling a bit sensitive that day I think.  In retrospect I would have told him 'we won't be long, and she's not being naughty so just ignore her please'.  And thanks Stacey, but we're out on Tuesday mornings, so Ella is asleep when that Tuesday session is  run.  Otherwise, I'd have loved to be your library buddy.  I'll go back to the Wednesday one - it was really good!  Big Up's to our council for running them... for free even - how cool is that?! 

I was in our library a couple of weeks ago with Leah and she was pretty loud, so excited with everything to see...the librarian just said, "well someone is very excited aren't they". I apologised for her being loud and they said they were glad she loves books and it didn't bother them. I say stuff the old guy, he probably says that to everyone, at least Ella enjoys her book, he would have moaned if she showed no interest!!

What do you expect of your toddler when you take them to a public library?  Our one here is pretty cool though I hardly go there, but today I took Ella to a sesh they run for preschoolers, where they have a sing and dance, listen to a story or a guest (a Police Officer today - and Ella got her first sit in a Police car, which she thought was so cool that she sobbed when she had to get out.  I had to wait 'till I was a bit older to get a ride in one of those!  And I sobbed while I was in  the car ), then do a craft activity.  It was fabulous (apart from no-one saying 'hi' to me.  I don't know why people don't try to make newbies feel welcome ).  After all that fun, I went to get a book on allergies.  I'm at the shelf looking for it, and Ella is walking about talking - not loudly, not squealing (she saves that for the shops ), just saying stuff.  And this old fart tells her "sssh ssssh SSSSH".  I let it go.  He does it again - I decide to grab my book and move on.  He does it AGAIN - I can't think of what I want to say to him but I'm angry, so while I'm planning how to say it, I finally find my book and can leave.  But it left me wondering - what is reasonable to expect of a toddler in a quiet place?  I could understand if I were letting her wreck the joint or she were shouting, but do people really have to get babysitters so they can pop into the library?!?  Some kids are never really quiet - if Ella's awake, she's running, climbing and making noise - it's just the way she is. 

Of course now I'm home I know exactly what I'd have said to him after the second ssshhh.  Gah!
