Last week I received three letters stated that all three children are qualify for CDA. All of them got allergies and eczema but need full care to prevent children exposure to their allergens. I think it is case of what did your dr tick the boxes?

The criteria for the Child Disability Allowance haven't changed. We're still getting it for my 2.5 yr son because of his allergies and eczema & started receiving it for my 11wk old daughter just last week (for reflux and eczema).

Yep. My doc signed if for the allergies as he saw being on neocate and paying to go privately to a specialist as an expense worthy of getting the CDA, that plus having to buy more expensive foods, normally organic so as to get diary, egg free etc. However he did say we were borderline as there are some children who are clear cut like those with CF etc and then those like us that aren't really disabled but do need the extra care and then it comes down to gp discretion.

As far as I can tell on the WINZ site the criteria haven't changed...

"To be able to receive a Child Disability Allowance a client must:

generally be 16 years or over
be the principal caregiver of a dependent child with a disability (or if there is no principal caregiver, have the care and control of the child for the time being)
be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident (ie not be in New Zealand unlawfully or here on a temporary permit) and
generally be ordinarily resident in New Zealand
For more information see: Deciding ordinarily resident
In addition to this the child must:

generally be ordinarily resident in New Zealand
be a dependent child
have a physical, sensory, psychiatric or intellectual disability
need constant care and attention because of the disability
be likely to need care permanently, or need care for more than 12 months and
meet the required living arrangements"

We had the gremlins ones reviewed in June, Mercedes was originally getting it for reflux which has resolved but my GP signed it off anyway on her ears given that we've been making twice-weekly trips to Starship for some time now with her ears. Sienna's is for her kidney condition.

The criteria used to be if the child had a medical condition or disability that means they require a greater degree of care or supervision than another child the same age, including being on ongoing medication. I never knew you could get money from winz for this sort of thing!!

My baby is 13 months old, he has ecezema, bad dairy intolerance and nut & egg allergies.

He cannot use pharmacy prescribed creams as they all seem to be parafin based which he appears to be allergic to so I have to buy a pot of cream about once a month that's $43.

He also has neocate but it is subsidisedat $6 a tin.

Would I possilby qualify for some help to pay for the creams and neocate?

The one we get for little McPloppy is 80 ftnt. He is on renitadine which lessens the amount of stomach acid produced to whatever comes up does not burn. We had to have the forms sent to us and fill out our bit then take it to the Dr to fill in...renewable each year. My one is 3 yrs old and is still on it. Also try raising the cot end and putting bubs down the end of the bed...not trying to teach you to suck eggs, just thought any info would be helpful

Oooh that brings back memories Yummymummy! The washing and the smell of regurgitated Neocate

I got the CDA for both gremlins, Mercedes one lapsed and I didn't renew it coz she is fine now but Sienna still gets it coz of her kidney condition which is kinda silly coz her meds and doctors visits are free anyways but hey.

I also got the Disability Allowance which is separate, that's the one Becks is getting and it's a direct reimbursement of costs. As long as your GP or Spec deems it to be serious enough and will tick the right box, you shouold qualify.

Sometime spec are not so good at ticking the right box as they see heaps of cases go tend to be harder to convince. I don't get the child one I get the adult one, my dr has put done that the dr's visits cost me to see him for what I need it for so they can pay it. When DH was on the sickness benefit he got the allowance to pay for the dr as well.

We get it for Isla- the main criteria that the dr has to sign off for you, is to say that the child has a diability or significant medical condition which means that they require more care than a child of the same sex of similar age. They also specify by ticking a box how often it should be reviewed, eg 6 monthly, yearly.
Some drs surgeries have the forms, or u can ph winz and they will post it out, and its gets backdated from your first ph call,..they can also make an appt for your interview at your local winz office over the ph from the 0800 number.

Its non- income tested, a set sum per week that is paid fortnightly into your bank account. They dont ask about health insurance. yeah i forgot to add doc has to sign it off.. how do you get it for your dr visits mummy_becks..you mean the disability ? cause i thought the other one was just for children?

Emma gets in for the gremlins you could ask her.

I currently get it to pay for my councilling and drs visits. I had to get the form filled in by my dr and councillor. WINZ already had the rest of my details and they pay it into my bank account weekly.

If you have insurance you would have to see if your insurance covers scripts for her, make sure you add her within the next month so that it is covered too.

Emma has just been diagnosed with reflux - could anyone tell me more about the Child disability allowance I've heard about. Would reflux qualify us for it? What do I need to do to claim it/set us up for it? Is it income tested and how much is it? How does it get paid ie is it a weekly pmnt or do I claim costs? How does it work if we also have health insurance?
