It is great being able to have the next baby naturally as well.

I did the same as Toni and made it clear to hubby that a Homebirth was the best choice for me. Mum was anxious too and cried throughout the labour but she was very happy once bubs came and I recovered well from the birth. We're expecting another bubs on Sunday the day after our son's first birthday hehehe (lol, due date Boxing Day) and we we are preparing for another HB. I can't wait I'm so excited I've told hubby to set up the birth pool first thing Monday as we need the space for this weekend's birthday and Xmas celebrations. Hey Mel,
for reference there is a great book called Silent Knife which has a lot of statistics & references to actual studies. Google is also pretty good too and well of course there are those of us here who have done the home waterbirth thing ourselves

My Hubby was very anti the idea as well but I just made it VERY clear to him how important it was for me. Ladies, when you have some time I would love some help.

Over time I am realising if I really want the chance to birth in the water then I am going to have a home birth, but DH is very anti the idea.

He is worried about things going wrong and I just dont know how to explain things to him so he understands where I am coming from and a pointer to some reference material would be great!

To be perfectly honest, the SnS wasn't very pleasant. I remember Ruth said my cervix was quite soft & stretchy (I give thanks to all the EPO I was putting up there LOL!) but was still really long. She wasn't very hopeful about anything happening so going into labour on Monday came as a surprise to me.

I preferred the SnS to a c-section or induction though. I had prodormal stuff with D for a week or two before having him.
You dont have to see the specialist, nor follow any advice that is given, its just a recommendation.

When I had my consult with him, I said I was happy to go to 43 weeks before considering any kind of anything. I had a consult booked for 41 weeks, but when I saw him at 36 weeks I had said I would not consider anything before 43 weeks from my LMP, so it would have been to discuss what would happen post 43 weeks (in my case I probably would have booked a c-section by the end of the 43 weeks, and in that time tried s&s, tinctures, accupuncture etc)

Labour is so unpredictable, and can change pretty quickly in a very short amount of time.

Do you have any emotional stuff that could be holding you back? Are your dates spot on? How long were your other pregnancies? How about your families gestations?
There are so many things that can have an influence on gestation, and it is just a average date, and the risks do increase slightly from 42 completed weeks onwards but you are a while off that.

I personally would just wait it out without a s&s. I had one with my first child, it didnt work and went into labour on my own a week later. It increases the infection risk, and you can risk having your waters break, which isnt conductive if you and baby arent ready to go into labour yet. Its like a rough vaginal exam, not exactly painful but not really pleasant either. I wouldnt consider one till at least 42 weeks.

The last few weeks are hard, waiting is a pain and quite unsettling (at least thats how I felt) I had a huge mental breakdown a few days before I had D, and it seems to be my trend to release all tensions before labour, because within days baby is here lol I joke that i had my transition with D 2 days before he was born.

lol..hey that's pretty hardcase alright...fingers x'd that will happen to me on wednesday if not before then..lol..yeah the stuff she gave me is birth prep stuff and it's foul but as it's only 2mls twice a day until Sunday, it's manageable...then it's 3 times a day until wednesday then it's 5mls 3 times a day until birth! I found just relaxing is what made me go into labour.... Although the accupuncture session & stretch & sweep with Ruth probably really helped too

You can so do it, just trust, let go of your fear and go with it Natural labour is so different to an induced labour, ok its gonna hurt, but it builds it isnt just there all of a sudden (usually)

Wow absolutely fantastic..I've just read your amazing story and you're really an inspiration! I had 2 C's and did not enjoy the experience at all. In all honesty I wasn't scared at all. I was far more freaked out in the hospital with the first two kids to be honest with all the nurses & monitors & hearing other people I didn't know around everywhere. At home I was able to relax a lot more & concentrate on what was happening to ME!
And I remember thinking after how EASY it was. 4.5 hours of abit of pain & then done LOL.

LOL Busymum! Actually Hubby is one of "those" guys who is quite happy to just not have some good loving (strange man!!!!) & not only that everytime I mention another baby he goes, "oh crap I REALLY better book in for that snip then!!!"
He REALLY doesn't want anymore kids, he probably wants no more kids alot more than I want another one so I'm sure he will probably get around to having that snippity snip op done soon.... Will be sad for me but the problem is if I did have another baby I dunno if that would be enough, I would probably want another one & then another & then another... PMSL. If I was rich & could just be a SAHM I would probably have a whole brood of kids Sadly that is not the case with me having to work (sux to be self employed sometimes! LOL) so probably best we stop at three kids

LOL Busymum! Thats what I couldn't get about Hubby! He has helped cows have calves zillions of times but was absolutely positive that he was staying up by my head when I was pushing! He didn't even cut the cord either, although that was okay because I did it

Honestly I don't think I could have a better birthing experience! Although I was a really big wuss about the pain from the contractions, the actual pushing was easy enough.

I keep thinking that it was all a dream though! LOL @ your hubby, I was nodding right along with him about not wanting to see the birth (I've tried watching births and almost passed out a few times!)... until the bit about cows. What, he does calf births and can't handle humans? No sympathy any more!!

Just for those who are interested

Monday morning around 5.20am I awoke to a contraction. Thinking nothing much of it I got up & went to the toilet where I had another contraction. I headed back to bed & gave Hubby a little nudge & commented that maybe today was the day… He just cuddled up & sleepily nodded before going back to sleep.
After yet another couple of contractions, I gave Hubby another nudge & told him to wake up so he could time the contractions: roughly 2 &1/2 minutes apart and about a minute long! Okay time to call my midwife!
So around 5.50am I was told to see how things went & to call Ruth back when I felt I needed her. Then I had Hubby call my Mum as I headed to the toilet again.
From the toilet I started telling Hubby what I needed because I was sooo not organised! Main things being to tidy up & get me a hot water bottle because the blimen contractions hurt!
Less than two minutes after getting the hot water bottle though, I was ordering him to run me a bath because the contractions felt so intense & painful. I knew that it was likely that things would slow down with getting into the water so soon but I didn’t care, anything to lessen the pain! And at first it did seem like things were slowing down but then it became intense again. I’m not sure what time it was but I asked Hubby to call Ruth because I couldn’t do it anymore. So she let Hubby know she was on her way.
I think it was about 8am when my Mum arrived with my little sister. Mum came straight in to see me & took over. By now my boys were awake & demanding breakfast so my sister & Hubby sorted them out.
I was crying & telling my Mum that I couldn’t do this & that the pain was too much for me to bear & I wanted to go to hospital for an epidural LOL!
8.10am and Ruth had arrived. She did an internal with me still in the bath and announced that I was not going anywhere as I was about 6 maybe 7 cm dilated! I couldn’t believe it as I had honestly thought I was still in early labour.
It gave me a second wind & with Mum reminding me to breathe through my contractions I carried on as planned.
Hubby had been given the job of setting up & filling the birthing pool which seemed to be keeping him happy & occupied. The second midwife was called & was asked to bring some gas with her. I was looking forward to using that gas!!
15 minutes later though I felt abit of pressure & pushed out membranes so Ruth was quickly on the phone again saying “forget the gas just head straight here”. We live rural so it is abit of a drive.
There was a little bit of meconium in my waters but nothing major & fetal monitoring showed that Bubs was happy still. Also Ruth reassured me that Bubs had most definitely moved from a posterior position to anterior.
I think it was around 9am that I moved from the bath to the birthing pool which was set up in the dining room. Also my Grandma arrived which was a wonderful, lovely surprise. I was feeling the need to push but was worried that I was not dilated enough so resisted the urge & begged Ruth to check me even though she thought I was fully dilated. I think the backup midwife Meredith arrived around 9.30am. Ruth checked me & found I had a small anterior lip on my cervix but was able to push it back so at 9.40am I started pushing!
I felt like a total animal with deep grunts that I couldn’t stop coming out of me as I pushed. I only stopped to ask if the head was moving at all. I think everyone was laughing at me a little bit as I was so anxious to make sure Bubs was coming out in between pushes! I kept putting my hand down to feel the head & it was reassuring to feel the head coming out more & more and quite easily too.
Hubby was sitting behind me (he didn’t want to see anything if he could help it!) while my Mum, Grandma & the two midwives stood watching in the front. Even my sister & boys came to see how everything was going before retreating back to my bedroom with my boys to continue watching videos.

At 9.58am I welcomed my beautiful little girl, Erika, into the world. She was brought out of the water & into my arms after only 18 minutes of pushing.
She weighed in at 8 pound 15 ounces (4.04kg), head circumference of 38cm & length of 52.3cm.
She took to the breast at 10.05am & as I got out of the birthing pool a few minutes later, out came the placenta. No tears, grazes or anything!
It was perfect...


Oh & apparently Hubby did see Bubs head coming out at one point & was soooo not impressed! My midwife laughed at him as he has no worries getting his hands dirty right up to the shoulder when it comes to our cows giving births!!
