i was the same as u cuppatea mine amniostick came up negative too but because i was so adament the MW looked at my pad and saw it was pinkish and yes smelt like semen(TMI) she knew the test was wrong!

I agree with Blondy Kye, check with your OB if you're worried,
I had so much watery discharge with Maya that even my m/w couldn't work out whether it was amnio fluid or not. Yep they smell like semen. Also when I was leaking there would be the normal whitish discharge but then also the watery fluid.
My waters broke completely about 12 hours after they started leaking (I started having contractions) and they did that swab test and it was negative, but because I insisted that my waters had broke and that I hadn't wet myself like the OB was trying to claim they did a scan, and what do you know there was only the hindwaters left

Hi kye,

My waters started to leak 5 days before I had Elle, and yes they do smell kinda like semen, and easy way to tell is if you lie down for a while and then stand up they will leak (as it pools inside you). Its not a nice feeling! Pop a pad on and if it gets quite full in a short amount of time I would def. be ringing your MW as there is a very simple test (an Amniocator - sp??) they can do.

Kye - for a girl at our AN class (who had her baby only after a couple of hours of niggly period pain, and then a c-section!) it turned out her waters may have broken a couple of days before, but because her placenta had moved down low, she didn't even notice that she was leaking amniotic fluid!

Anywho, it's kind of slimy (sorry TMI) and takes a while to wipe away.. I was wondering what amniotic fluid is like and how can you tell the difference between normal discharge (sorry if tmi) that and urine? i know that urine has that distinct smell! and can amniotic fluid leak slowly without you knowing?

I have just been having some watery dicharge sometimes, not much but wonder if its normal or not?
