Thanks Deb, I did think he was normal but it was driving me nuts. I started by saying lets put all your clothes into this box and once all the clothes are off the floor lets put the toys in the other boxes. Probably too much for him to handle being a male.

I am going to try and put everything away tonight as we are heading to Siberia tomorrow to see Nigel and I kinda want the house a bit tidy for when Nigel comes home.

I agree, just enjoy the night off and start again tomorrow when you're both refreshed and have had break from each other.
Just an idea, maybe you could do it *with* him tomorrow instead? Or make it into a game by timing him to see how fast he can get each group into the boxes? If he can do it in under X minutes he gets a reward.
Good luck, and good on you for calling in backup. It can't be easy trying to pack up the whole house on your own!

Becks, take a deep breath, and remember that at the moment you are doing all of this on your own. It is only natural that you are going to find things really hard at times and not having your DH there when things get really tough has got to make things even harder.

You've done the right thing by sending him to your MIL.

don't feel like he has " won" because then it will make you feel like you are some sort of competition with him, and your whole relationship will be based on getting the better of each other.

You will probably know that he is pushing my buttons and today it got to me.

I had asked him to clean up his room by putting the toys into boxes and the clothes into another and then the rubbish into a bag. He kept telling me he can't do it, or its to hard. I told him I didn't want to hear those words and if he didn't do it then it was being thrown out. Well he said it again and I didn't go back on my words and I got the stuff and put it on the front deck - he was screaming at me telling me he would do it but after I don't know how many times asking him to do I did it. I rang my friend in tears asking what to do as I feared I might hurt him if he stayed here. She said ring my MIL to get him, so I rang her and she has taken him for the night.

So now he has gone and it is a bit like well he won as he gets to go to Gran's - but she is not impressed with him at all.

I'm sitting here in tears coz I can't control my own child and I don't know what to do with him anymore.

He has a wicked temper on him and he uses it on Josh and that make me angry at him and it is like we are just going around in circles.

I just don't know what to do with him anymore

ETA: I know in myself I wouldn't hurt him intentionally but I have that fear of me getting so worked up that I would just lash out at him.
