I am going to soon as worked out Trustpower is the most expensive company and with all the discounts and Friends discounts and The once a year cheque...................... we still pay an EXTRA $300-$350 a year for our power. Ugh, this was my job for almost 2 years, a telemarketer trying to get people to change! It was good too, at the start, when people were actually saving money.

Be wary though, we changed for an ever-so-slightly cheaper rate following a targetted ad campaign (letters sent to customers of their competitors saying 'here are our rates, and sign up with us and get a free magazine sub for a year")... so we did because it was cheaper, and the free read was just a bonus, but 6 months later they send a letter out saying their rates are going up - higher than our original ones.

I would and have. We save about $20-40 a month by having switched from Contact to Energy Direct which isn't really much but any saving is good. Even if it was $10 a month I'd still switch.. our rates are locked in for the next 2 years so thats really cool. I would! We're tight here too. We just signed up to a 2-year deal with contact and locked in the same rate so we won't have any surprises with hikes in power. Plus we got $25 off our first bill yay

Lizzle - everyone gets the prompt payment with most companies as long as you pay it before the due date. If I had the choice, I would!!! Probably not if everything went was going well with your current company. My other thought was there might be $100 difference in it now but who's to say it will stay like that.

depends - at the moment we are with contact and we get the prompt payment because we use a direct debit of $40 a week.
