I've been told it's rather contagious.  ...our whole family were crook with it at once.  But like Kellz said, it's pretty blinkin rare for adults to get it, but you probably want to duck out of coffee groups and the like until he's all better, because other babies can easily pick it up.   to ya - hope the cabin fever doesn't set in! 

I got told that it isn't contagious as its a viral infection (we'd been at coffee group that morning so was a bit concerned)

Forgot to add that some chemists have a humidifier (steam machine) that you can hire

Hi we have it as well, all the sugguestions work, we tried them all.  The vicks on the soles of the feet good, especially at night.  It lasted for 5 days, doctor said 5 - 7 days.  Good luck, its horrible when they get upset with it. Hope it improves soon

Our Doc told us to aviod the steam for Ella - and said instead, taking baby out wrapped up warmly in the cool night air helps!  I thought it sounded crazy, but he did say that parents often find it's getting worse and worse so they'll bundle baby into the car to go to the hospital (typically at night), and by the time they get there baby is much better after breathing in the cool air - who would have thought?  I found a few health websites that suggested the same. 

My 4 year old has this as well. Doesn't help but Andrew can take dry cough cough mixture which has helped a lot. Steam also helps as does the vicks.
