We got my Dad a helicopter flying lesson and he absolutely loved it. You can get them on Red Balloon Days and there is a similar website but I can't remember the name.
I just googled it I think and went directly through one of the local helicopter companies. Pretty sure it was only a couple hundred for an intro flying lesson.

This is so weird, I started thinking about what to get DH for his 30, I am going to start putting away a bit of my spending money each fortnight, his only just had is 29th so I have ages to save.

DH has a fear of heights, I dont think the plane/chopper/balloon ride would work for him.....

Great idea for yours though, a chopper ride would be awesome.

My BF organised a skydive for her DP's 30th....

Fiona: I know $400 is a decent amount hehe but since Daniel has come he doesn't get to enjoy the things he loves so much as they require a bit of money to do so I want him to have a real treat.

I did the canvas idea last year so I can't really use that one again.

The fragrance one is out too, he has about 10 bottles people have given him over the years and he never really uses them.

I've emailed helipro to ask how much they would cost. Hey Stacey it is my DH 30th in sept also. I found this website called total experience through fkybuys and they have all sorts of stuff... planes cars etc.

I am getting dh the formula 1 drive, he is F1 mad!!!

Grant is having his 30th in Oct and he loves planes as well. I am getting him an introductory flight where he actually gets to control the plane with an instructor. Not that bad at all. Something like $120 for 30 minutes and $190 for a 50 min flight. (not exact figures)

There is a place for helicopter rides as well. Grant also found a place in Hong Kong that sells really cheap planes and a lot cheaper than here as well as a place that sells the servers and batteries for model planes a lot cheaper (that is two different places)

What I am getting him as well is a coffee machine (but he knows about that so might get that when he is with me beforehand when a sale is on)

Then from both me and McKayla I am getting him a swiss army knive for $50 not that bad at all. My sister bought a flying lesson thingie for her ex for Xmas (he wasn't her ex then lol) and I'm pretty sure it wasn't waaaay expensive. You could maybe get that and something else as well if you want to spend $400. My brothers LOVE planes, and for my brother Jareds birthday his girlfriend paid for him to fly a plane. It was around $150. this was in Auckland so im not sure where you would be able to do it where you live.
My little brother did it for his birthday in May aswell. Wow $400 is MASSIVE!

You could get one of his fav pics printed onto canvas and stretched out over a block so it becomes a wallhanging.

A model airplane or something to. Maybe one he could build himself.

You could get a kauri / rimu photo frame / album and get it engraved with a special message then he could put one of his pics in.

I gave my DH a test flight for his 30th he loved it I don't think the eye sight really matters as the instructor only lets them do a little bit of flying (not much but exciting if you've never done it before).
The worst thing about it was that the instructor asked if the girls wanted to go...so off they went and left Mummy on the ground freaking out. OMG that was the longest 30min of my life!!!!
I don't think it cost anywhere near $400.00 more $100-150.00.
Other than that there is Hot Air Balloon rides, fishing trips etc
My DH is 40 this year and I'm thinking of getting him either a telescope or a guitar.

I'm trying to figure out what I want to get DH for his 30th in September.

I realise its a couple of months away but I'd like to get something really cool/special which may mean I need to secretely put away a bit of cash as I'm willing to spend a wee bit (up to $400 I think which is a bit to us).

His main hobbies/likes:
- planes/helicopters/air travel stuff
- photography

Both of these are expensive as hobbies so I can't really get anything photography wise as the stuff he wants are over a grand easily.

One idea I have is a flying lesson but I haven't looked into what that might cost but I expect it might be well outta what we can afford, it was just an idea but he has one good eye one bad eye so I'm not too sure if he can even do it with that problem.
