Hey everyone thanks for your replies..

Dont think he would have ear problems.. he doesnt rub them at all.. He used to when he was younger but that was because he had glueear.. It all cleared up.. Hes due for a plunket check soon so will see what they have to say too.

Andrew didn't have much to say at that age and then we found out that he had fluid stuck in his middle ears and he got grommets put in at 22 months and from then his language took off.

Could he have ear problems??

Jaxons language sounds spot on to me. He is obviously taking in, processing and understanding the world around him. Keep in mind that often boys are slower to talk fluently than girls too (although there are always exceptions).

I'd say be cautious of what you read. I believe that they look for around 50 words at 2 years old...some sites say less, some say more. I very much doubt 200 words is average at this age.

Elle and Caitlin do have around that many words and do speak in sentences but there is also still a load of goobledy gook in there. The sentences we have are things like "what's that sound mummy?" and "uh oh, bumped head" and "where did the bird go?". If she gets really excited it just turns to 100% goobledy gook (really funny to listen to it as she'll go on for minutes, almost without breathing). From my contact with other kids our girls do seem to have more words at this stage but it'll probably all balance out in the end.

Its also good to note not to compare boys with girls as girls generally talk sooner than boys (and more - somethings never change aye!! )

Brooke was saying her full alphabet at 22 months where as josh didn't really learn his alphabet till just before school (although he was talking)

Gremlins are a lot like Seb by the sounds of it, they have about 2 doz words and Mercedes has just started putting two together like "all gone". She babbles constantly tho, whereas Sienna doesn't and I think that's partly why the ear specialist wants her to see a speech therapist. As long as Jaxon is babbling and picking up new words I'd say he's fine.

I think 21 mth olds that speak in full sentences are the exception rather than the rule. Seb only has about 15-20 words total, and doesn't use them much, only time he puts two words together is for "what's this" or "what's that" which started as "whatsis" and "whatsat" Lots and lots of babbling hehe.

Hi everyone,

Just wondering how your 21 mth olds are going with their talking.. Jaxon says lots of words but not really saying full sentences.. The only sentence he does say is there it is or where is it? plus a lot of gibble gabble.lol .   He does say words such as circle, flower, zigzag, T, O, A, Car, Yes, see ya, star, tractor, Nan nan, Nanny, Poppy, Ball, bath, horse, giraffe, and other words including the basics...

I was reading on a baby site that most 21mths are saying about 200 words now and learn 10 new ones each day..  and talking sentences??

Is it normal for some Toddlers to not be talking sentences at this age?

Im not really concerned cos I realise all kids are different, just curious..

Jaxon is very clever as he will draw perfect circles now when I ask him to and also trys to draw stars and he does really well.. He also draws zigzags when I ask  him to. Had to have a brag, hehe..

Aint it cool seeing them learn new things all the time...
