I KNEW he was going to wake at night hungry because of lack of eating.. we made dinner time WAY more fun... lots of songs, and I found he would eat HEAPS if I had it on my finger!! yes sounds weird.. but if I used my finger as a 'spoon' with the mashed veg etc and then said 'oucheewahwah' after each mouthful, he would giggle and open up again and again!
He's now 16months and we STILL go through this.. he definitely prefers feeding himself and 'playing' with his food and I've learnt not to stress to much about it!
good luck! :)

I have noticed with Jack that the teething signs seem to change each time he gets teeth.

Rather than putting him in the highchair can you feed him on the floor? Put a picnic rug down and have him sit there with you while he eats? Or on a small table and chairs? Does your highchair lower? Could you lower it and sit him in it without restraining him?

Good luck!

If he won't let you feed him with a spoon offer some finger foods, give him a spoon to bash about and if he still refuses let him down and try again at the next meal.

Also we have started (as of yesterday morn) removing all stimulus. No TV is on etc and that seems to help us.

    Author: SaLin
Subject: 18058
Posted: 09 June 2008 at 1:58pm

I have a beautiful 8 & 1/2 month bub who has always been difficult to breast feed but up until recently has loved his solids. However progressively over the last couple of weeks he has been refusing to eat them, even those that he usually loves. To the point where he now starts to scream when I try to put him in his high chair. Ahhhh!

He has a number of teeth but teething has never stopped him eating before and he seems otherwise well. He is very active and I suspect the problem is more that he hates to be restrained as I can sometimes get him to eat a meal if I follow him as he crawls round the floor! (Ridiculous I know!) Also he is still happy to try anything that is very sweet.....

Would love to hear from anyone who has had a similar problem or who has any ideas as to how to get him eating properly again.
