My mw said actually not to use BM unless really bad anyway as milk can make it look gunkier than is (but bm definately good for clearing up infections). Thomas has had a grotty eye since he was born and nothing seems to be clearing it up. Its only really bad when he cries. MW did a swab and it came back with no infection, so we dont know.. Just an update, seems that the cold was just coincidental timing. Well, her eyes have still been the same but then this morning she's woken up all blocked up. So it must just be the first physical sign of a cold for her. Yeah, to be honest the milk thing and saline won't do anything really. It is just a matter of time. If it is blocked tear ducts there isn't allot that can be done this young.  My DS had this in both eyes and has only just this month got rid of it.  It is really annoying, but doesn't seem to affect them too much.

Breastmilk and saline seem to be only things that can clean it up - but nothing cleared DS up completely except time.

Yeah, that's exactly what it looks like. Mw due sometime this week so will hit her up about it. Not sure what it is but if you are breastfeeding, I recommend that you squirt some into her eyes as it has great healing properties. It could be blocked tear ducts which is realitivly common and means the eyes constantly run...looks like they have been crying all the time. It usually corrects itself but can take a couple of months...I would ask your MW/GP or plunket nurse about it. As they get older, if it doesn't correct they can do something to correct it.

This morning my 3 week old daughter woke up with both eyes weeping. It's clear fluid (like tears), no gunk. Around her eyes is all red and puffy (the eye whites themselves are white not blood shot), I would explain it as though she looks like she's really tired, but she's not.
