If you just want flicks dont bother getting GHDs!!! You just need cheapies!! Honestly they do the job just fine! Remington, Vidal Sasson i think are all sweet, just make sure you get ceramic ones.

Oh my, I have tried a couple of cheapies and then bought a GHD. They are soooo much better!!!! It not takes 20 minutes to straighten my hair instead of an hour.

Im just glad my sis has a pair od GHDs that our mum sent her form England!! They are the big fat ones too so they rock.

But yeah, i would NEVER spend that much on a pair of straighteners thats f-ing ridiculous. Plus i dont straighten my hair that much and even if i did id get ones that are much cheaper. In the end, its still gonna mess up your hair whether they cost $50 or $300.

 

I think Remington are pretty good, my sister got a pair for about 70 and had a little pair free.

I just have a cheap set, they were a gift, but I'm pretty sure they were about $30 from Kmart, Vidal Sassoon I think.
I'd get a cheaper one to start with, just until you know how much you're going to use it. I'm thinking about ghd now, since I'm now straightening my hair everyday, so it is worth it, but 2 years ago when it was just for special occasions it wasn't.

I have the remmington ones that are ceramic with teflon coating, very slimline and i love them, they give me the same results that i got from the hairdresser. I straighten, then put thru some fructis straightening milk, then do a last once over to set the fructis stuff which is heat activated. I had some normal straighteners which I thought we ok until I used some GHD's I had to get some and have never looked back

BEWARE of buying "GHD" on trade me,there wasa big scandal a while back of people spending hte big money and getting fakes... Personally if I was going to spen upwards of $150 for them, I owuld buy them at a salon, not of TM. At least you know what you are getting.


DP bought mine from my friend who works at a salon (she herself has 3 pairs ) but my friend bought hers off TM and hers are definetly the real thing, and if they arent , they work just the same as mine

I  my GHD, I have really pacific island fuzzy hair and the GHD is the only hair straighten that will tame it. I know it is a lot of money for a GHD but seriously well worth it!!!!

I have tried two other cheaper brands before I bought my GHDs and there is no comparison - GHDs are a million times better. They are mega expensive but so worth it. I agree. I have some Remington straighteners but they are crap compared to the GHD's. I have a vidal sasson one and a remmington from farmers. The remmington cost me $40 and is brilliant. I use it when I go away on holiday instead of taking the more expensive one.
The problem with going to a salon is they put all the extra gunk in to help with smoothing your hair first. Buy the V05 smoothing spray - it's just as good as the stuff in the salons. I first had some cheaper ones - Remmington I think? and have recently got some GHDs (because I got the haircut from hell and GHDs were the only way I could fix it!!!!!!! ) There is a HUGE difference with how well the GHDs smooth and straighten your hair. I completely understand what you are saying about not being able to justify the expense though. GHDs are worth it - maybe have a look on trade me or wait for a sale (i got mine for $250 during a special promotion).
I use mine every day, it doesnt take very long to straighten my hair (and my hair is long and curly!) i had a remmington one prior to this and it would take at least half an hour every morning to straighten my hair! (it was good for the one off occasion though)

Hehe, I'd love a set of GHB straightners but yeah they are mega-expensive so I waited for a good ol' Briscoes sale and got me a pair of Tresomme (Phillips) one for about $40 I think they were - just made sure they had ceramic plates as apparently that's better for your hair. I would love to get a GHD, they're fab (have used one before), but can't afford it. I've got a Remington one that cost about $50 3 years ago and while it does straighten, it doesn't smooth much.

Wet2Straight ones can be pretty good, my sis bought one for about $100.

Can't believe I'm asking this question but I just need a little help.

I'm not much of a 'girly-girl', I've had short hair the last 15 years but my hairdresser has been slowly bringing me around to growing it a bit. So yesterday she cuts it and then uses these straighteners on it so it's flipped out a bit. It's cool. But now I have to buy some straighteners. From what I can see GHB are good but they're EXPENSIVE, so for those that use these things, are there just as good cheaper ones?
