Just had a visit from dog control - turns out the dog had nearly throttles himself on his chain and another neighbour had complained. Took the chance to continue my "feedback" re the dog. You should be able to go through your local council to complain about the noise - I think they can issue an abatement notice. I would definetly ring the SPCA , isnt it funny (but not in a haha way ) that nothing will be done , or the council etc cant do anything , until something bad happens?
What if another neighbour doesnt have the patience you do and takes matters into their own hands or something

thanks guys. DH is very tempted to put aspirin in a bit of meat and give it to them apparently that'll take care of the issue too. I am writing a letter today to dog control as they were meant to send me barking complaint forms a month ago and I think I may ring the SPCA just to say about the food and water issue. I'm in the same boat and it's driving me mad! I have become an obsessed woman who grequently rings the council! Apparently the neighbours are seeing a dog psychologist so I've been told to be patient. Still, it's about 5 weeks since my last complaint and the dog is still manic, so I'll complain again. For me, it's also a safety issue as the dog has got off its chain and jumped the fence several times - not good given there'll soon be a wee baby here.

Buy a dog roll and throw a couple of chunks over the fence when its getting annoying if they are hungry that should shut them up. It's really hard - I've been in the position you are and we ended up moving house because it drove us completely up the wall!!

Unfortunately, unless there is obvious neglect, they can't and won't do anything - I think they may be able to pick them up if they're unregistered, but I'm not sure. The only basis you can get anything done is a noise complaint and that really doesn't do much - Council just comes out and speaks to the owners

I find it hard to believe some dog owners - DH and I visit our neighbours (and not just immediate neighbours - people 2 houses down and people over the back too) every couple of months to make sure that our dogs aren't causing them any headaches. In Auckland the local city council are who you call about barking. They usually come out to talk to the owners. If you think they are being mistreated or neglected, you call the SPCA. Have called both myself! I would ring your local council and have a chat with them, dont know if there is anything that they can do about it, unless the dogs are being mis-treated. Maybe give SPCA a call too and ask then what the signs of mis-treatment are that you could look out for.

what can I do? They bark and fight and keep us awake half the night. We have spoken to the neighbours who have done jack all to help and also I rang dog control who told me they can do nothing and I am at my wits end. Last night they woke me up at 1.30 and wouldn't shut up until 3.30 and I am so buggered cos its happening too much. I don't know if they are feeding them very well cos when they fight most of the time it is over an empty food bowl and the poor things never get taken for walks they are stuck in this little yard all day    any help would be much appreciated.
