Hooded Towels, bibs or a night light

For a more expensive gift:
My sisters birthday was very soon after her son was born so for her I got her some pampering vouchers with a 6 month expiry date. I agree with Stacey about the bigger sized clothing, also I got given a few packs of disposable nappies which you can't go wrong with in the early days.

I found it awesome when people got Daniel a cute item of clothing that wasn't in newborn size. We got stuff given to us in 00 and 0 sizes which was great as we already had more than enough newborn and 000 size.

Bibs! Good ones, with the PUL backing (not plastic but like plastic and they can be tumble dried). Silly Billyz or Mum2Mum, something like that. They're about $7-8 each. Cheap bibs are cr*p.

If you want to give the gift to your friend and not the baby, maybe some smellies, homemade baking or frozen meals? You can just get a nice stretch n grow or a little blanket with a small soft toy. It doesn't need to be much.
