I was pretty much at rock bottom for me. I had been petrified about the whole idea of taking meds.

The first couple of weeks were hardish - it seemed each day i had a different side effect - but those really are just while your body gets used to it. I take it the same time each night before bed, about 9.30ish and just made sure that i had heaps of water to drink those first few weeks to combat headaches and dry mouth etc. I kept wondering "hhm, I feel a bit better, I wonder if they're working?" but then, one day i found myself not wondering and analyzing anymore - and it was truely then i realised that yep - they were working! was bout 2 - 3 weeks, and in that time i did have days where i felt worse. I can't remember who else said it, but sleep is a big thing too, and i said that to my doc when i went back for the follow up 3 weeks after starting, and he reminded me that often, people that are depressed have alot of sleep problems despite being so tired. Once the meds start correcting the imbalance, you start getting better sleep, which helps even more. Sleep (lack of it)is a huge trigger for me

Hang in there, you're doing the right thing, and these ones are actually very gentle as opposed to Aropax etc.

Edited by mum2paris

It got me through one of the blackest periods of my life a few years ago.

You start to feel normal again quite quickly believe it or not ... one day things are all shades of grey, and within a few weeks you start to see the world in colour again. I hope she's building up your dose over a few days/weeks? I found that was a good way to start off. Also, don't be fooled into thinking that you should come off them again once you start to feel better - give it time and let yourself get back on your feet.

Remember too that a benefit of ADs is that they clear your head enough to actually work through the basic issues that are causing the problem, and it's really important to do. When you feel you can, as hard as it may be, sit down with DH and work out what you can do to preserve your health. That's how my first draft of the happy-credits plan was born

Remember - there's nothing to be scared or ashamed of. The lady from MMH on ny next visit told me about 6 weeks and I should really start to feel the effects, and it was about right.
