My midwife suggested tampons and at first I was like "No way am I sticking something up there again!" (sorry - Bit crude) but then after another couple of days of using pads I was definitely ready.
The bleeding was light enough that I could use tampons normally and didn't have a problem with Pelvic Floor muscles after two weeks as they were strong enough by then.

So yeah, it is possible to use tampons after a few weeks.
The only problem is that you aren't meant to use them continuously so need to give your bod a break.

Those pelvic muscles are the ones that hold tampons in place...

Also, the amount of blood is so much that you would need to be changing your tampon every hour or so...

Having said all that, I used tampons for my first period after Josiah, when it came back when he was 2 months old.
