Whle growing up with my grandmother she had this thing about me singing and dancing for other people, she would enter me in stupid competitions and tell everybody that I LOVED doing it. I would cry and cry before having to go on stage and was still pushed out there. They were only small talent quests but I hated it, i sang songs I didn't even know let alone like and wore these terrible outfits! I really just ended up a nervous shy person who couldn't even speak in front of people. I remember this from about 4ish right up until 8 when I flatly refused to do anymore. In the long run I would get in trouble for speaking my mind about it so pretty much just stopped talking to my family about anything.

I don't know if its the same situation for other kids but I mean with me nobody else had a clue how scared and upset I was they thought I did it because I wanted to NOT because I would get the vacuum cleaner hose round my legs and have a week of being told how useless I was if I didn't do it.

IDK I have full intention of getting Neosha into dancing and stuff but because she loves music and I want her to try stuff but I will never push her out onto a stage EVER unless of course she asks.

But do you really think it's appropriate? I can't seem to get outta my head that it's the parents who are putting their children out there for their OWN glory. Honestly, what kinda of satisfaction can a FOUR year old get out of it? I doubt she even understands what is really going on!

I don't know... I just don't feel comfortable with it, kinda reminds me of those 'Painted Baies' ie: Childrens pageants.

What are your thoughts?
