I only fed her vegetables for the first 2 months and then still kept them as her main food for the next few months following that- I had heard that feeding her veges rather than fruit meant that they will eat their veges alot better later on and its easier to introduce fruit after veges than the other way- eg they are less likely to take to veges if they are given fruit first as they prefer sweeter flavours.
Of course some kids will still eat veges fine but I thought I would give it a try. She eats anything and everything and still really loves her veges- I don't know if she was always going to be like that but it seems to make sense to me and I think it may have helped :)

Looking back it was too early. I was just soooo excited about it though. can't recall why. Anyway, we started on baby rice. They say do veges first as if you do fruit first they may develop a sweet tooth. Read a mag a few weeks ago that said this was rubbish. Jake ate lots of pumpkin, kumara, bananas, not so much apples, but in Jpaan they were hideously expensive and "someone" kept using his little cans of apples for roast pork. He also loved peas and silverbeet. Now he eats almost anything, but also gets fussy. He will only eat certain things on certain days. ONe thing he loves all the time is weetbix though. He MUST have warm milk however - no sugar ( thanks step-mum!)

We never had any probs though. I then graduated on to pureed apple, pear, carrot, kumara etc. one type at a time because apparently not supposed to mix at the start to get them used to tastes and check for bad reactions I guess.? anyway now at 7 months he is loving his food and eats anything, LOL, 2 times a day (lunch and dinner), it is so much fun!!

If you buy the wee cans you can freeze it in an ice cube tray and then when you need it just heat a cube at a time because they dont take much more than one or two cubes to start with so you dont waste a whole can

It filled him up enough that he started sleeping through one of his 2 night feeds! Then, I started giving him Farex at breakfast and fruit at night, then Farex at breakfast, fruit or custard at lunch and vegetables at night (building up over a month to that stage).

Hannah is 5 months today! Anyway, I was going to wait until 6 months but she is starting to try and eat my food so have decided to start solids. So I have 2 questions:

* What did you start giving your baby? Have done a bit of reading and found various things - start with baby rice, start with veges, start with fruit... Not very helpful!

* What time did you start with? I was thinking dinner time after her feed cos she seems to be feeding for longer then and seems a bit grumpy so thought maybe she was hungry? But all the info said start with during the day - cant really work out why tho.

Cant believe shes starting solids already, where have the last 5 months gone...

Edited by aimeejoy
