Current practise in NZ is for all women who are RH- to have Anti D after any medical procedure which may cause bleeding (eg. ECV, CVS, amnio), or after any episode of bleeding during pregnancy AFTER 12 WEEKS. They don't give it routinely after first trimester bleeding. However if you have a first tri m/c you will have it.
After baby is born they take a sample of cord blood to find out baby's blood type and if he/she is positive then you will have the Anti D within 24 hours.

Unfortunately, I somehow built up antibodies when I was preggies with my DS. At 28 weeks, my bloods were normal. I had more bloods done at 37 weeks and discovered that I'd built up antibodies. To this day, we don't know how it happened as I didn't have any bleeding.

Overseas, it a common thing that RH negative women are given anti D at 28 weeks to avoid this happening. Apparently it is not done in NZ because it hasn't crossed all the red tape

We would like another baby, so will take the risk. After having a low risk awesome pregnancy, I am now looking at a high risk pregnancy.

Sorry, didn't mean to make this thread about me, but I would definiately be asking for an anti D injection if I had any bleeding (or at least ask my doctor/mw if I needed one).

I haven't read the replies, but I am -ve and Hannah is +ve so I was given Anti-D to stop my body fighting any subsequent pregnancies.

My mw told me a story of one of her Mums:
A few years ago she had a +ve bub (she's -ve). She refused the anti-d (on the basis that it's a blood product - even though there is no risk involved). He next pregnancy was full of complications. Her baby had to have 4 inutero blood transfusions only to be born at 37 weeks and die 5 weeks later.

Becks is correct because your kids together will have rh neg blood too (2 neg = neg kids, 1pos 1neg = either neg or pos kids)

I didn't have one with my first 2 as they both were neg type blood, with Rhyley I had to have one after the ECV in cause bleeding started and because he ended up being pos I had to have another. They have to send babies cord blood away to test for that.

Its to prevent your neg blood anitbiodies fighting the positive blood antibodies if any was left behind from baby... meaning if in another pregnancy it might fight the feotus because it will think its a foriegn antibodie.... so causing miscarraige (this may not happen but its a risk)

I was given Anti D each time I had a bleed, I also had to have it after my CVS just in case, and I had it after she was born too - so about 4 times all up!

I think my hubby is positive (but we can't find his plunket book or anything so will have to send him in for a blood test!)
I know that the doctor said something about that i should have got an Anti D the first time i had bleeding but i wasnt really taking in what they were saying at the time.
Need to go to the doctors next week anyway so will get more info then i spose! I am Rh Neg and so is my DH so I don't need them. If your DP is Rh Pos then you will need the jab, if heis neg then you may not need it. I had one given to me at 8 weeks preg with Andrew and none afer that as we found out that DH was Rh Neg too.

I am not sure about implantation bleeding, but any other bleeding would mean you need a shot of Anti-D. They have to give it to you in case baby has positive blood.

You need anti d when bubs has postive blood. So with miscarriages you never what blood type they were so you need to have it. Hey Ladies,

im not pregnant yet but wanted to get some info before i do...
I have RH Negative blood and after my miscarriage they gave me anti D. What i wanted to know is that with the next bub do i need to get an anti D injection everytime i have bleeding (lets hope i never have bleeding again but ya know)
What about implantation bleeding?
