ECV, CVS, amnio), or after any episode of bleeding during pregnancy AFTER 12 WEEKS. They don't give it routinely after first trimester bleeding. However if you have a first tri m/c you will have it.
After baby is born they take a sample of cord blood to find out baby's blood type and if he/she is positive then you will have the Anti D within 24 hours.
At 28 weeks, my bloods were normal. I had more bloods done at 37 weeks and discovered that I'd built up antibodies. To this day, we don't know how it happened as I didn't have any bleeding.

Overseas, it a common thing that RH negative women are given anti D at 28 weeks to avoid this happening. Apparently it is not done in NZ because it hasn't crossed all the red tape

We would like another baby, so will take the risk. After having a low risk awesome pregnancy, I am now looking at a high risk pregnancy.

Sorry, didn't mean to make this thread about me, but I would definiately be asking for an anti D injection if I had any bleeding (or at least ask my doctor/mw if I needed one).

Edited by NikkiB

She refused the anti-d (on the basis that it's a blood product - even though there is no risk involved). He next pregnancy was full of complications. Her baby had to have 4 inutero blood transfusions only to be born at 37 weeks and die 5 weeks later.
Wow. They have to send babies cord blood away to test for that.

Its to prevent your neg blood anitbiodies fighting the positive blood antibodies if any was left behind from baby... meaning if in another pregnancy it might fight the feotus because it will think its a foriegn antibodie.... so causing miscarraige (this may not happen but its a risk)

Edited by AnnC
