If I can't work out what's wrong with Chloe and she cries for ages even after I have tried everything I can think of, I usually figure that she must have a headache or earache or teething or something like that, and give her a dose. Usually seems to work.

It's mostly guesswork with babies since they can't communicate except by crying, lol. So it's really a process of elimination... try everything until something works.

Yes, I remember being told by dr that if you know he's clean, dry, feed, etc etc and been crying for over an hour then give them pamol

Sounds like he was probably feeling a bit crook if he's blocked up and stuff today... did you try giving him some pamol? Maybe that would help if it happened again, he might have a headache or sore throat or something.

Also, Harry did this when I ate curry the night before he was feeding cos he had a sore puku, then cos he kept feeding it kept getting sorer. Are you able to hold him out from feeding a little bit longer than 1/2 hour? Try the 5 s's and see if you can get him to sleep on you.

Hi girls,
He managed to sleep from about 3am til 7.30 which was lovely. Poor little thing just conked out from being so exhausted. He's a little happier this morning, although he's got a blocked nose and rattly throat. He's currently on the couch giggling at his grandad. I'll see how he goes this morning before I take him to the A/H doctor again, so expensive! Thanks for all the lovely advice, if he gets sh*tty again I'll just tie him up in his sling and attach him to me for the day.

aw, big hugs missangel hope your night improved.
when toby started getting like that at night i gave him a nice warm bath and then fed him.. the bath reaklly did help settle him down... thats our bedtime routine now- he gets his bath everynight i feed him and he is down happily.
it isnt easy when they just cry and cry- i end up in tears myself when that happens... tobs was crying lots this morning and i just had to leave him crying while i calmed down and got my wee break then i gave him some big hugs until he settled...

He has a dummy which he sucks AND cries thru while he's sucking, he's on formula anyway, so I've got that sorted. Weve done the 5 s's, my god lol. Hes had plenty of gripe water, normal water and all the other remedies. He's burping well too.. I'm thinking maybe he is just in a sh*tty >.<

Or you could try his sucking on your little finger if you don't have a dummy - sounds like he is sucking for comfort and then getting peed off that milk keeps coming out?? I remember my boy used to do that....

now i've re-read your post and yep, it doesn't sound like he's hungry because he stops feeding to cry.........maybe you should try a dummy? he could be thinking he needs to suckle to get to sleep and that's causing an upset tum?

or he's got wind problems........give him to DH to burp, they seem to get it up alot easier than us women

will he sleep if he's in bed with you?

we went through the same thing with charli at about the same age........she constantly wanted to eat because she thought that was the way to sleep, and so she'd end up with a guts ache because she had too much

try
the 5 s's as mentioned above
lay him across your lap, tummy down, and rock him side to side, gently rubbing his back
put him in a pram and go back and forth over a 'bump' like a join in the lino/carpet
take him for a ride in the car
if your sure he's not hungry and is clean etc..wrap him, put him to bed on his side and leave him until you've got your breath back
if you have a late night chemist, maybe get him a dummy and try that.......some babies just need them, charli sure did!

if all fails......perhaps a trip to the petrol station for a sachet of formula and see if that works (but only give him 50mls)

HUGE hugs to you! it can be a really tough time at that age, both mine were trouble at 6-7wks.........as hard as it is, just keep calm and tell yourself over and over 'this will pass, this will pass...it DOES get better'

The fact that he's stopping feeding to cry is indicative that he's not hungry. My first thought was that he may have bad wind? Check whether his upper lip is slightly blue, you may want to try using infacol or gripe water.

Failing that I would take him back to the docs, this is not usual behaviour and doctors have been known to misdiagnose - my nephew had an undiagnosed hernia for months because one of his testicles hadn't dropped but the docs kept trying to assure my sis there was nothing wrong, you as his mum know what's right and what's not.

First of all sounds like you need a few.

Don't beat yourself up, we've ALL been where you are right now trust me!

On nights like this DH & I used the tag team approach - you do an hour, then DH does an hour and make sure you move to a part of the house where you can't hear bubs (or the dogs!). That always gave me enough time to calm down because we always found that she would pick up on tension and it would make matters 10 times worse (even 2 years later!)

Sounds like he's cluster feeding and perhaps going through a growth spurt or he might just be in a bad mood (we all get them from time to time)

Hope he wears himself out and gives you guys a decent nights sleep

You poor thing! Perhaps as he's snacking, he's not getting a full enough tummy to fall asleep. That was what was happening for us. One day when E had been awake for 12 hours, I rang my MW in tears and she said to offer her 50 mls of formula to break the pattern of snacking. It filled her up, gave me a break from bfeeding and then she fell asleep shortly after.

I also found the 5 S's helped sometimes:
Swaddling
Side or stomach lying
Shhhh loudly
Swinging
Sucking

First things first, Thomas has been to the doctor and theres nothing wrong with him.

He's feeding every 30 mins, is warm, clean, bum clean and he WONT stop crying. He even stops while he's feeding to cry. What the hell do I do???? I've got the worst headache now, Matts going insane, the dogs are barking, i'm going to run away from home soon!
