I went to the dentist a couple of weeks ago when I was around 10 weeks as I had a filling fall out and had been told that that tooth would need a crown at some point. The dentist just filled it with something, (as a temporary fix I think to stop food getting in it), I didn't have an injection or anything, and as I couldn't have an X Ray taken, he said for me to wait to have the crown done until after baby arrives, as then I'll be able to have X Rays taken.

Thanks Kelly pleased thats its all good. I actually need about 5 fillings but 2 are more urgent than the others (havent been to the dentist in years just happened to go for a check up and clean a few weeks ago).

there are local anasthetics that are fine to use on pregnant woman , just make sure you tell your dentist you are .
Did he say whether they were urgent or if they could wait? if they are sore, then you should ask him what your options are if you want to wait til your second trimester.

I went to the dentist a couple of weeks ago and told them I was pregnant so they didn't do any x-rays. I did have x-rays done in my last pregnancy but I was in my 2nd trimester and they made me wear a heavy duty lead apron.

Dentists will only do the absolute necessary work during pregnancy - it is best to let them know you are pregnant and they will advise what is and isn't safe.

I had a root canal done with my first pg and have an appointment today for a std filling.

I think the main reason to tell them you're preggy is so they don't take x-rays. yes there is a special anestetic that they give you but i think some dentists prefer to wait till 2nd tri? I had 3 sets of jabs in 3rd tri:( even had to get a real filling in the end..which isnt recommended but she said it was fine..

Yes it is safe i had a filling replaced when i was preg and had local anesthetic. Hmmm, not 100% sure, but personally I wouldn't. Given that they say don't have nurofen, cough mixture etc I think local might not be the best.

I would ask your dentist - they're bound to know difinitively one way or the other.
