I also had a blanket over the top (cotton or wool as they breathe).
Totally depends on the temp of the room too. If you go for either muslin or flannelette, for wrap, these are cotton and allow the airflow through the wrap so baby doesn't overheat.
Once Tyde started getting out of his wraps, he went into a Peke Moe ! ;)

    Author: KiwiWonder
Subject: 19176
Posted: 16 July 2008 at 1:33pm

Both my babies (July and March) have been wrapped - Z was wrapped until she was over 6 months.

Definitely need sheets - we actually use LOTS of sheets as K in particular is very spilly, so I tend to use a folded flat cloth nappy and/or flannel wrap under her head so that I'm only changing that extra bit, rather than all the bedding, when she's had a big spill in her bed / hammock.

For blankets, in the hammock I use a cotton weave blanket or a woollen blanket - both bassinet / pram sized (just depends on which is handy really!) When she's not in the hammock she's usually in our bed, and then we just use the normal duvet / covers ;-)

The other thing I found was that the wraps really need to be of a decent size to last longer than a month or so as baby grows / gets more wiggly / mobile. I personally don't use anything less than 1m x 1m - The Sleep Store has some really good wraps (that can be pricey) but otherwise you can DIY your own

It's a polar fleece blanket and we wrap her from the armpits down so both her arms are free for her comfort

He also had a cotton sheet and a blanket on top of that. As it has become colder he is now wrapped in a wrap made of t-shirt like material, with flanelette sheets and a warmer blanket. You will soon know if baby is too hot as they will be hot and sweaty when you get them up, also you can put your fingers down the back of their neck - if warm they are okay, but if sweaty they are too hot.

Also I can't imagine not wrapping Oliver, is still is at present as well. Just made his sleep so much better and longer - especially as he got older.

Amanda
