When I was on the sickness benefit for a couple of months for severe depression (about 2004 so things could have changed) I just rang them up each week with my wage (as it differed every week) and they adjusted the next week's payments. I never had to pay anything back unless I went over the threshold for the week (it was just deducted from the following week's payment). I would much rather that than a yearly basis. Dh's payrises happen in July/August of each year and we never know what he'll get, yet we need the money weekly otherwise we can't survive. Stupid stupid system.

Worked out ood this year as the end of the financial year was also the end of our first year as private contractors so we didn't know what our income was going to be and had the accountant for the business work it all out - I think I ended up with about $350 after everything was sorted, I would have ended up paying back way more if we had let it go though.
