Though you won't continue to accrue AL while on PL for that 6mths until you return again. When you return it would still be sitting there for you to take as annual leave from then on.<br /><br />I work in Local Govt and they don't 'pay out' AL either - you have to take it as holiday and have it paid out while actually 'on leave'. You could spend another 16 days away from work at the end of your 6mth PL and have it paid out to you then?<br /><br />Why not leave work 16 days before your PPL begins and have it paid out that way?]]>

I.e 14 weeks PPL then x weeks annual leave then the rest of the 6 months as unpaid leave.<br /><br />Failing that I would phone up the department of labour and ask for their advice.]]>

I work for a big reputable company - I think is becoming more common and depends on your work and contract.<br /><br />I had 2 weeks AL so I left work mid-January - had 2 weeks "holiday" and then my official first day of maternity leave was 01Feb.  I then got PPL from 01FEB.<br /><br />Make sure you calculate out that your last day would be XX day as I could also accrue hours for the 2 weeks holiday before I left for PPL - hope that doesn't sound confusing.<br /><br />]]>

So they have to pay it out.<br />They're trying to dodge that as they know that when you come back it will be next to worthless to you, meaning they have to fork out less money. ]]>

However, I have 16 days annual leave accrued which my employer informs me cannot be paid out to me before I go on leave! I plan to return in 6 months, but what will happen to this leave? Will it be calculated at a reduced rate?<br />Any advice on how to get this paid out NOW would be grand!
