I'm glad it wasn't nappy rash, it was thrush and seems to have almost gone now we have the right cream. Will continue to use it for the full seven days.

For future reference if you want to avoid nappy rash and plan to go without nappy wipes and use wet flannels instead. What we do is keep a supply of baby flannels in a small bucket of water with a few drops of tea tree oil, then just take them out as you need them at nappy change time. Change the water daily. Works a treat. Of course plent of air time too.

I recommend Sudocrem too, Jack had welts all over his bum from a bad episode of diarrhoea from teething and basically I gave him airing time all day but when he had a nappy on I lathered on the Sudocrem.

Also, change his nappy pretty much twice as much as you usually do, sometimes their pee is so acidic (esp boys) that it keeps inflamming the area.

Serenity - my nurse told me never to use Vasoline on a baby - seeing as its petroleum jelly. I swear by Vaseline and Cornflour.

Slap on a whole bunch of vaseline, then sprinkle on the cornflour. Old old trick, and it works a treat

Better yet, it's more than likely that you've already got those two things at home already.

We are the same as Charly, smearing Z&C cream all over at almost every nappy change to prevent a rash. But when it comes to clearing up, I use bepanthan liberally and then cover over the top of that with Z&C cream. Almost 7!

I use Zinc and Castor Oil at each nappy change as a barrier, but it's useless when it comes to clearing up a rash.
I ditto the Sudocrem and Bepanthen. Best products on the market, IMHO.

ditto on the sudocreme!!!     charli is prone to nasty nappy rash and it's the only thing (and lots of air) that helps clear it up. even daycare commented on how well it worked

Keziah had a wicked bum rash not too long ago and it turned into welts and would bleed We gave her heaps of nappy off time and alternated on what we used at each bum change... (bepanthen OR Sudocream) and within a few days (a week I believe) her bottom was 100% rash free

When Daniel has in infection of his boy bits he spends all day with his nappy off, he only has it on when feeding or sleeping. As long as you're happy to leave him.  Over summer when Michaela got a bad rash we went whole days without nappies on except during sleep times.  Do you have wooden floors or any plastic tarpauline or sheeting that you can put down under some towels and a playmat so he's comfy but the floor is protected?

I found the zinc and castor oil made Michaela's rash worse.  I'd stop using that, first off.

This is what worked for us:

  • I would make up a solution of warm water and baking soda and dips your flannels in this to clean the nappy area.  I'd also sprinkle baking soda into the bath tonight (baking soda has natural antibacterial properties).
  • Lot's of nappy free time.
  • Try bepanthan and curash (I found the combination was good).
  • Spread manuka honey straight onto the rash (it sounds weird and it stings initially but it really really works.  The higher UMF the better).
  • Go back to the doctor and ask for Micreme H  - this never failed to clear up Michaela's nappy rash.

Hey ladies.

Phoenix has his first ever nappy rash, and it is awful. A week ago we went to doctors and he was given Zink and Castor Oil cream for his baby butt. It still hasn't cleared.

Have tried airing his bottom after changes.
Regular washing of the rash after changes.
Zinc and Castor Oil cream.
Stopped using baby wipes and using warm wet flannels.
Even gone to cloth nappies.
