I add it to mashed potato or veges so I know even if Jake doesn't eat that many serves of meat a week he is still at least getting a small amount. And I think they have iron added too which is a bonus.

Jake will eat some meats but he has tiny serves -- I figure he is eating a heap of veges and fruit each meal, plus a small amount of meat a few times a week, so he is probably getting enough nutrients. On occasion she will have casseroled meat,or chicken. I can only try her with meat about 3 times a week. She then will only eat veges about 3 times a week as well, so it normally goes 1 night something meaty, the next something vege and so on. On off nights I normally do scrambled egg with little roast veges. I tend not to worry about it now ( it has taken me months to be able to say that!!) as she is still putting on weight and has loads of energy and she eats heaps of fruit so I figure shes fine. And most of all she is happy i'm not trying to shove stuff she doesn't want down her!

As a baby she wouldn't have any of the jars of meat at all, I had to make my own stuff, she would only have a few of the fruit ones, I don't think she had the lambs fry one ever. (i bought it, she just wouldn't eat it, although neither would I its gross!!)

She hated the oureed meat and veges and when she was finally able to eat finger food I think she found it too tough.
She always had realy low iron so was forever trying to find ways to get it up. Shed have marmite on toast but never any veges.
She eventually started eating meatballs and loved marinated lamb. You wouldnt believe it now that she was ever a fussy eater as she eats almost anything theese days, loves her meat (especially fancy stuff like veal and salmon) and eats heaps of veges too.
I think its something they get better with as they get older. As long as they are happy and healthy I wouldn't worry.
Author: SMoody
Subject: 19460
Posted: 25 July 2008 at 12:11pm

McKayla is not a big meat eater as such but getting better at it. She likes chicken but it has to be a thigh piece. No drumsticks what so ever and dont take it off the bone. If she doesnt eat it in her plate I put it in her Dad's plate and when he comes home she steals it back.

She only recently started eating steak and that is when I cut it into thin strips. She however always always ate sirloin (mmm expensive taste). She loves sausuges but I really want to rather start making my own. Way too much crap in the store ones for my liking. She didnt wanted to eat mince when little until she tasted my lasagne. Now she will eat it if it is made like the lasagne mince. She eats meatload and meat balls however.

She doesnt eat burgers unless it is done the healthy way (Yay). She likes crumbed chicken but you have to do it yourself.

She just loves fish and always had so when she goes through a stage of not eating any meat I just get fish.

She doesnt eat lamb tjops as such. She rarely will try pork as such. (My FIL only eats pork so I stocked up on it for his supposed visit just for him not to come over and us to have to eat all of that.)

What else is there? She likes ham and bacon and smoked salmon is still the favourite. She will throw a huge tantrum if we go past it in the shop and dont get it. She will actually be willing to throw out any sweets we already bought to get it.

I was worried about iron just due to her being pale. (which is normal as she is exactly how I was) But got fed up with everyone saying it is due to not eating meat although everytime a test is done her levels cant be more perfect. Go figure.

But how many of us ACTUALLY stress over whether they are eating it or not?

Lucas has never been a meat eater, he wasn't phased by the Aria Farm beef and lamb chips, chicken & fish aren't options ...he just turns his nose up at any form of meat (incl sausages and beef patties etc) EXCEPT he used to eat the baby food cans that were 'lambs fry' and the veges mixed with beef. So not really a meat eater at all here.

At our last plunket check the nurse blasted me for not TRYING harder, *ahem* excuse me, what about all these kids that are raised in vegetarian households or where it is part of a culture?

I certainly don't stress about it, but I'm wondering how many other mummies have kids that aren't interested in it either?
