I try not to give him any afternoon tea after 3.45/4pm (if he has a long afternoon nap and sleeps through afternoon tea time) as he won't be so hungry at dinner time. If he wakes at 4.30pm and seems hungry we just do dinner a bit early. And if he has afternoon tea late I might do dinner a bit later too.

I figure that Olivia is a pretty good gauge for how hungry she is and she is usually hungry at the right times. I bought forward her dinner by half an hour today and gave her a suppertime snack to stop her from snacking in the afternoons and it worked out even better than I thought. Every kid is different though, some need routines for food, others don't.

I put enough in that it means she doesn't have a seperate lunch. If we are at playcentre or home she sits down at a little table to eat whenever she wants something so she is not just wandering aroung eating. If we are out then she has it in the car or pushchair. After she has a sleep, if its before 3pm I give her a small snack and then she has nothing until dinnertime which is about 4.45-5pm. Normally this means she will eat a reasonable amount at dinner as she is hungry. This is what works for us, and it has taken a long time for her to eat a decent amount during the day so I am happy to do it this way. Also means we don't really have a lot of food being wasted as she is eating when she wants and is hungry.
